Oh wonderful. We’re trying to reorganise a trip to Hamburg that was supposed to happen in July. If social distancing is relaxed by September I might still be able to go.

I can't speak for the UK, I'm Scandi! and I suspect these to be bilateral agreements

and per the rules Hamburg is too big anyway - visits to cities with more than 750,000 citizens warrant a two week quarantine on the return. so it's not a free for all just yet. I had planned a trip to Hamburg too actually... might settle on Lübeck

Hmm. Well I was personally thinking of cancelling anyway but my group of friends are split and some seem to be determined to go. Original flight was cancelled so I can get a refund on that, but hotel was non refundable and they will only let us transfer to another date.

I’m hoping to cancel completely as I’ve just spent the equivalent of my flight money on a Diana Ross ticket!
 
I'm officially back working from Monday, but still mostly from home apparently. I've told my manager in no uncertain terms that I want a black cab ON ACCOUNT to take me there and back when I have to go in :tongueout:
 
Hospital admissions in England are up from this time last week.

Presumably this means they’ll halt the plans to open non-essential shops on the 15th.
 
Not that I want to defend or speak in favour of these CUNTS in any way but they have said that face coverings will be available at stations for people in case you don't have your own. So there's that.

I'm absolutely BAFFLED by this decision. I'd bought masks a couple of weeks ago because I thought it might come... but why the fuck has it taken them over THREE MONTHS to advise this? No advice of this nature AT ALL through the worst times of transmission. If they have know they are a good way to prevent transmission why weren't they telling people this in March?
 
In fairness - and I MIGHT be taking complete rubbish here so maybe I’ll be corrected by international posters - didn’t other countries who have this rule only bring it in along with the easing of lockdown restrictions (and presumably increased volume of commuters) too?

I’d imagine they didn’t want to advise people to get masks when they were struggling to get masks for the NHS themselves
 
357 UK deaths yesterday. 1327 in the last 5 days.
In the same period one week previously, 373 (Friday) and 1477 (5-day).

So it's not looking good, considering we were about 3 weeks behind Spain at one point and they had less than 10 deaths every day last week.
 
Sweden looking grim too - new cases still growing daily, 77 deaths yesterday is their highest in a week, and their deaths/1m population figure (460) is now approaching that of Spain (559), compared with 101 in Denmark and 44 in Norway. I know nothing about Swedish politics but surely the people will hold their government to account for this? Or have they got literal Stockholm Syndrome like us?

It's bonkers and the only reason it's taken them 'this long' is to throw people off the Dom Cummings scent!
 
I honestly don't understand how he can sit there and act all sanctimonious and patronising when:

1. We have the 2nd highest death rates in the world
2. We still have a PPE scandal
3. We implemented measures way too late
4. Boris didn't care to even attend any COBRA meetings when it was all kicking off
5. Track & Trace is a total shambles
6. NHS 'app' is dead
7. As health secretary not only did he NOT condemn Dom Cummings' actions but he actually also JUSTIFIED them?

And let's face it, if/when we get the second wave they'll blame the BLM protest marches!

Scotland have recorded a further 7 deaths today after 2 days of zero deaths (over the weekend). I am actually strangely confident that we won’t get a second wave here and things should be back to some form of normality soon. If England do get a second wave this is just going to be further ammunition for Nicola Sturgeon to get her independent Scotland.

It’s depressing seeing Scotland (and to a lesser extent Northern Ireland) being so on top of it now in stark contrast to England. I think they had about 30 new cases between the two of them yesterday.
 
Had a text saying that you won’t be allowed in the village doctors/pharmacy without a face covering. All very good but WHY wasn’t this happening in March?
 
QUITE. From Monday you have to wear a face covering on public transport, but I'm fine to go without UNTIL then, and of course, for the previous THREE MONTHS.

Probably would've been good to implement this in the two weeks before the lockdown when it was at it's PEAK and I was getting a bus with 50 other people. But HEY HO.

With the face coverings, I had assumed that this was because Monday is when non-essential shops open so there will probably be a sharp upturn in the volume of people actually using public transport so social distancing will be harder.

I would never want to make excuses for this sorry excuse for a government, but I didn’t think this particular detail is totally devoid of logic.
 
it’s quite something having the business secretary doing the various statistics now in the corona show as opposed to an actual medical or scientific expert (who have now disappeared to avoid being made to answer ‘difficult’ questions for the government)

they aren’t even hiding the fact it’s a total and absolute spin exercise

honestly, it just feels like everything is falling apart. no coherent vision or policy, an absent prime minister and lie after lie being told and gdp predicted to slide by 14% this year (the worst of the major five european economies) according to the IMF

global health policy people are continually warning that we are fucked reopening so haphazardly and without an effective track and trace policy in force... texas/ arizona/ florida /iran are all seeing the perils of this and we look set to join them

how long can this go on? and if we get a second wave for winter then what? throw in no deal brexit as well?
