The guy that looks like a weaveless Lauren Harries said that local lockdowns will soon be the new norm and things are likely to go downhill massively come Winter. I know we all suspected it but I don’t think it has been said out loud by Boris or any of his goons up until now. :(
 
I see India have reported 20,000 new cases in a single day. Good grief :(

I don’t see how these local lockdowns will work in practice. If there’s a lockdown in Edinburgh for instance, I could just fuck off to Glasgow for the next few weeks? Potentially taking the virus with me.

I’m not saying I am doing that, but I can see why people in neighbouring cities would.
 
Innit. Even more ridiculous if they try to do it with London boroughs. I have three other boroughs less than 20 minutes walk away.
 
I think it's going to be a sad part of the end of lockdown when Tomasz Schafenaker gets his haircut.

Some of the pictures I came across today are ridiculous. Literally over 100 people crammed together. Where is the policing?
 
It’s entirely not going to happen. Though the pub I was in had introduced some measures, people were mingling, sitting at each other’s tables etc. There’s no way you can police that.

I am full of good intentions, but know what I am like after I have a few. I will be round every table talking to everyone if I know them or not and will no doubt resist social distancing. I know this, and this is why I am likely to avoid pubs until I know I am not carrying anything and putting others at danger.
 
Mr Kate said there were a few queues for pubs on his way here today but the biggest queue of all was for a bike shop.
 
Let’s be honest though, most are not going to queue to get in to a pub as you may well be standing there for HOURS.
 
There's a permenant queue at my local Boyes' store. Even at 10am on a Monday. It's just full of tat, what the fuck are people buying?!

(edit: i realise that anyone south of Nottingham or north of Manchester may not have come across a Boyes. It's a bit like a poor man's Woolworths or Wilko)
 
Never underestimate the desperation of people stuck in the "you must buy some shit for the birthday of anyone above an acquaintance" routine.
 
I guess yesterday was always going to be a 'big bang' flashpoint of loads of people going out and letting off steam, although it's hard to tell how widespread anything was as the press can just find a few photos of crowds and make it seem like everyone was out.

I'm clinging to the hope that in the normal pre-lockdown times these gatherings would have been happening constantly, and yet with the distancing and working from home that's endemic in the rest of our lives it hopefully won't make too much of a dent.

I love travelling and have booked myself a short trip in three weeks, I'll be beyond furious if a local/national lockdown gets imposed before then.
 
I'm not enjoying BBC News' slightly scaremonger-y headlines at the moment.

"Pubs close after drinkers test positive for virus" - true, but it's 3 pubs not all pubs

"Can Rushi Sunak save your job? Five things he may do" - to me sounds flippant when people really are losing their jobs/nervous about their jobs.

Maybe I'm just feeling sensitive to it today but it feels a bit click baity
