But seriously. No. Celebrities with no qualifications should stick to tweeting and using their voice to promote causes they care for, rather than trying to be president. Dick.

Don't worry, he's missed the filing deadline in nearly every state - he'd need a write-in campaign, which would be pretty unlikely to make much of an impact.

No I don't think he'd get zero votes, but do think the implication that a vast swathe of black Americans would vote for him just because he's black was a bit silly. :D

I'll happily (well, miserably if it results in a Trump win) eat humble pie if I'm wrong, but this isn't like a Jill Stein third party candidate - who genuinely had a platform that siphoned off a demographic who weren't enthused by Hilary. It's a publicity stunt by a crazed celebrity, and I think if he even makes the ballot at all the impact will be statistically negligible.

Not that I don't think it's possible Trumps team put him up to this. They're certainly desperate enough right now.

And yes, before anyone says it I KNOW, but Trump was a crazed celebrity who ran a fully realised campaign and wound up at the head of one of the two dominant parties in the country.

And it wasn't just because he's Black. I think you may be underestimating his appeal to/influence on Black youth in particular but let's see :side-eye:
 
Personally I think if people are going to go to the trouble of voting, they're likely to have put a bit more thought into it than 'LOL Kanye', especially in this climate. If anything, I think it's the kind of people who thought Trump was a good idea who might be subject to such whims, rather than the ones who will now join a long queue or go to the effort of postal voting to get rid of him.

It's 2020 hun. Kanye is seen as a joke. He's influential within fashion to a degree but people aren't gonna vote for him because they like his $500 sneakers. To suggest he'll somehow turn young black voters who are 97% Dem to vote Republican/third party is laughable!
 
If you're that secure in terms of Biden's prospects that you're happy for him to lose votes - which WILL happen, in whatever quantity - then great!
 
Those tweets could obviously be jokes/lies/attention seeking but I really don't think it's something that can be brushed off that easily. At the very least it's a distraction, and the effort to unseat Trump doesn't need that either.

Him getting on the ballot in any swing states could really fuck things up for the Democrats.

To be fair, as much as Kanye is seen as a joke by many these days, he's also got a ride-or-die cult-like following. (Like his arch-nemesis, Taylor Swift, who could mobilise an army of horse girls if she so wishes).

He is a God-like genius to a certain brand of music-blogging, Supreme-wearing sneaker fetishists, but the question is: would internet hypelords be particularly likely to have voted for anyone in the first place?

MARIAH. I love that she generally stays out of politics, but this is one time I wish she'd pipe up for.
 
His numbers are really quite bad. Ironically, I think Trump might have been the worst thing AND the best thing for the South. He milked the "Southern Strategy" and racial fear so hard, he ran the tanks dry. A lot of white people aren't buying it anymore. Video footage and social media have finally exposed the police for the abusers that they are, his handling of the Coronavirus has been abysmal and confederate flags/statues continue to fall.

I think he might've inadvertently helped the South self-reflect, by showing them the worst in themselves.

What a fascinating turn of events.

I mean I'm not saying that he definitely won't win again. I'm just saying that even if he does, it'll be a much narrower win and Republicans would have hopefully learned something.

Kanye West has given more details about the policy platform he will adopt in his bid to become US president in November, declaring himself anti-abortion, sceptical about a Covid-19 vaccine and keen to return “fear and love of God” to education.

In an interview with Forbes, he announced that he would run under the banner of the Birthday party, “because when we win it’s everybody’s birthday”. His campaign slogan is a leaner version of Barack Obama’s “Yes we can” message, reading simply “YES”.

West has missed the deadline to appear on the ballot in a number of states, but he argued that he could be added as a latecomer due to the coronavirus.

He said he was “going to speak with Jared Kushner, the White House, with Biden” to make his bid a reality – although he was also critical of the presumptive Democratic nominee.

He said: “Obama’s special. Trump’s special. We say Kanye West is special. America needs special people that lead. Bill Clinton? Special. Joe Biden’s not special.”

West’s campaign advisers are his wife, the TV star Kim Kardashian-West, and the Tesla founder Elon Musk, both of whom have endorsed him. Speaking about Musk, West said: “I proposed to him to be the head of our space programme.”

West said that if he were to win – either in 2020 or 2024, the year in which he previously hinted he would run – it would be “God’s appointment”. He praised Donald Trump as “the closest president we’ve had in years to allowing God to still be part of the conversation”.

West has previously voiced support for Trump and worn one of Trump’s trademark Make America Great Again caps when he met the president in the Oval Office. “One of the main reasons I wore the red hat [was] as a protest to the segregation of votes in the black community,” West said. “Other than the fact that I like Trump hotels and the saxophones in the lobby.”

Regarding the development of a Covid-19 vaccine, he said: “It’s so many of our children that are being vaccinated and paralysed … So when they say the way we’re going to fix covid is with a vaccine, I’m extremely cautious. That’s the mark of the beast.

“They want to put chips inside of us, they want to do all kinds of things to make it where we can’t cross the gates of heaven.”

West added that Covid-19 was “all about God. We need to stop doing things that make God mad.”

He said he may have contracted the disease in February: “Chills, shaking in the bed, taking hot showers, looking at videos telling me what I’m supposed to do to get over it.”

He said he intended to end police brutality, but added that “the police are people, too”. He said he opposes the death penalty and is “pro-life because I’m following the word of the Bible”

On education, he said he wanted to reinstate “the fear and love of God in all schools and organisations” and criticised Black History Month as “torture porn”. He added: “The schools, the infrastructure, was made for us to not truly be all we can be, but to be just good enough to work for the corporations that designed the school systems. We’re tearing that up … we’re not going to tear up the constitution; what we will do is amend.”

West’s bid has been criticised in some quarters as a distraction that could harm Biden’s campaign. West said it was “a form of racism and white supremacy and white control to say that all black people need to be Democrat and to assume that me running is me splitting the vote”.

West is also preparing to release his 10th studio album, God’s Country. He released the first single from the record last week, Wash Us in the Blood. He told Forbes: “I give my album away for free,” but did not elaborate.

I'm inclined to think the Kanye campaign is last minute noise engineered by the Trump campaign to distract. I'm not sure whether it will ultimately boil down to anything, particularly if he can't get on the ballot.
 
Judging by the last paragraph of that article VoR posted, it could all be a whole load of nothing simply to promote the release of Kanye’s next album.

Trump also gave Kanye a loan of up to $5 million via the Paycheck Protection Program for his Yeezy brand.

Trump also gave the Church of Scientology a bunch of money too.
