Page 380 was my homepage, because it was the athletics news.
 
My dad was obsessed with watching the flight updates on teletext. If anyone was visiting that was flying to us, the TV was basically out of commission until they arrived.

My mum is the same now with the online arrivals board at Bristol Airport. If she knows the flight details of anyone flying back, she will keep it logged on and refreshing for the duration of the flight.

I'm not entirely sure why - she's not a particularly anxious person and has no problem with air travel. Apparently it's just nice to know.
 
Mr Sheena always sends me a text just after I land saying “welcome to...”/ “welcome back”.

To be honest, it creeps me out a little and I hate it, but he thinks he’s being romantic so I don’t say anything. Also annoying when you were planning to stop off on the cruising ground on the A3 for a couple of hours on the way back, but still...
 
I remember when I came back from New Zealand in 2000 and found out on teletext that the Spice Girls were #1 with Holler. It would be quite a nerve-inducing few seconds waiting for the pages to load up - thank goodness we didn't have teletext in 2003 when my fave Rosie Ribbons was knocking about - I'd have been scrolling for hours!
 
@lolly / @ZenGiraffe I hope your parents aren't aware of FlightRadar24, they'll never be off it :shock: I have a friend who asks for the flight number every time I go anywhere and will track it in real time - I mean there are worse hobbies to have I suppose.

I do love that website. Every now and again I like to look at where the planes I can see are going.

I think you can track flights through Google as well. If you search the flight number, you can get it to send you live updates if there are any changes such as delays etc. It is a much more hands off approach to the same thing.

Genuinely thought Ms Ron had died because of that app once.
 
And as we're talking about Teletext again I'll do the same basic post I always do about how good Channel 4 Teletext was, mainly due to the following:
  • Bamboozle, obviously. I was never into any of the other 'kids' stuff, but I did appreciate that they managed to keep a daily comic strip with an ongoing storyline (Turner the Worm) running for years using teletext graphics.
  • The Planet Sound music pages, which were very good for keeping up with news and the reviews were usually decent too - a BIT real music but they did cover some pop as well. The letters pages were a sort of proto internet forum, with running jokes and weird grudges forming between regular correspondents (such as the vitriolic Rebecca Naheed and Geri loon Peter Pinsent from Pinner). I always wondered if any of those people were on Dot (not that I knew about it at the time), as there was definitely a good few years of overlap.
  • The videogames section, Digitiser, was a mix of genuinely good journalism and reviews (better then most of the print magazines at the time) and also really weird surreal humour that I loved. They would have stuff like fake scripts for EastEnders episodes, and 'press reveal' jokes that were usually just silly non-sequiturs. They eventually got taken off and replaced with the very bland GameCentral, but the final edition of Digitiser signed off with... this :disco:

I just went into a bit of a work-time hole flicking through all the old Ceefax/teletext pages. I LOVED Digitiser.

there was also a quest game I used to play (and cheat by guessing the page numbers)

Yeah, winter storm in Ibiza, so proper wild, road was like a river getting to the airport. Crying child in the back, it was like a Hollywood film!
