I realised last week or the week before that London has a total of SEVEN permanent testing centres and five of those are drive-through. I literally don’t know a single person with a car.

It's so hard to keep track BUT is the change that this now applies outdoors too, when the indoor limit has always been six people from two bubbles?
 
I thought it was 6 for outdoors too? Only more if it’s 2 households? Not that anyone’s been following it, nor do I suspect anyone will take any notice of this.
 
According to BBC News, guidance in England allowed gatherings of up to six people from different households - or up to 30 people from two households.

It was up to 30 from 2 households...I think. Which means you'd have to come from fucking DOWNTON ABBEY (or Benefit Street actually) to make up the numbers.

Like everyone, I'm a bit shady on the rules, but I thought 30 was just for weddings and the like. You couldn't just have 30 people found for a barbecue. Not that it made any fucking difference whatsoever

If I had my tin foil had on, I'd almost believe it was part of a wider govt strategy to blame the public for their own failures. :eyes:

Now summer is over (and all we are is apart), were there that many previously-legal gatherings of 7+ people, from only two bubbles, that are now going to stop? Headlines aside this seems to change very little as far as I can tell.

This is the one that's getting my GOAT the most.

The BLAME GAME when they have literally told people that staying in is doing a disservice to the country. Keep calm and EAT OUT.
 
I’m supposed to be going to London Zoo then a restaurant for a little birthday gathering for my mum this Saturday. Lucky to just get in there before Monday.

I had Radio 2 on in the background today and caught the Jeremy Vine show with nothing but Baby Boomers calling in to complain about “young people” breaking the rules. I’m sorry, but almost every person I’ve seen since masks became mandatory either not wearing one or just using one as a chin rest has been about 65. Snap for early on with multiple pensioner couples clogging up the supermarket aisles in 2s and 3s despite advice not to.

I honestly think that this one rule for work and one rule for ... well, literally everything that might bring you a modicum of joy will ultimately lead to non-compliance.
 
Not a universal rule but I agree that younger people are more likely than older to be complying with rules re: masks.
 
Appalling stuff includes:
  • The rules having been so overcomplicated and lax that no one even knew what they were any more (But yay for finally reiterating some kind of rule to try and nudge people back into line)
  • Suddenly making it very difficult for people to get a test - VERY CONVENIENTLY just as the numbers are going up, i.e. probably a lot higher than they're being recorded
  • No socialising with >6 people but it's still encouraged to pointlessly sit in an office of 30 to save Pret
  • Months of "young people don't get it too bad so please please please go forth and feed the economy, get back to school, get back to uni, get back to work" followed by "look at all those irresponsible young people spreading it about". The young are victims in this like everyone, not a bloody scapegoat. It's especially bad that I was reading and talking with a young Redditor who has gone back to school and is terrified of picking up the virus and passing it onto his grandparents and how he knows he'd struggle with feelings of guilt if something happened to them "because of him". They're dealing with stuff like this, and then get told implicitly that they're irresponsible and will indeed be to blame. Awful.

There's been a lot of fanfare about the limits being simplified and just being six people everywhere now.

But does the two bubble limit still apply, and if so is that both indoors and outdoors? I can't find this anywhere.

I’ve just come off my morning team call and I’m really annoyed that people are totally buying that there’s actually any substance to this new piece of fluff rule...

Multiple times people mentioned the “new lockdown” coming into place on Monday.
