Admin & Moderator Elections 2020

Like I stated above, I have learnt from my post whore phase. I no longer bang on about the subjects that people found annoying and those which felt like spamming.

The main issue is the idea that the mods aren’t around enough (Looking at VoR, Wendy etc). The fact that I often do well in POTW shows that I’m always around.

Being a moderator isn’t ALWAYS about the number of posts you make. It’s all about the stuff that happens behind the scenes that most people don’t even know happen - changing post titles, merging threads, moving threads, splitting threads, adding polls, <u>deleting cum shot videos</u>

In fact I think a good moderator wouldn’t have the time to be POTW all the time because they’d be busy making sure everything was ticking along ok.

Still, not being online for three days doesn’t show good modship.

Three days? Come on! How do you know that the mods haven't spoken behind the scenes about this? Both myself and Octy have taken extended breaks recently to deal with stuff outside of Moopy, and we spoke about this with the rest of the mod team to let them know about it - while we all love this place it is not the centre of the universe for some of us.

I don't think it's fair for you to judge people based on things you don't have the full facts about.

Absolutely right. Life can come at you fast @Soldi and snap judgements about someone's online presence sit ill.

Wait is Octy NOT going for admin? :o

I inferred from her message in the Admin election thread that she would run but was waiting to see if anyone had stellar tech knowledge who wanted to do it. I am reading into her message rather though so I might be wrong!

That's pretty much it. If someone stands for Admin who has the appropriate technical savvy, I will step aside.

Speaking purely for myself, I know my posting is down but I'm always lurking and I do a lot of little thankless upkeep tasks like splitting threads (WHEN APPROPRIATE), fixing broken YouTube links etc.

Also I've shown myself willing to go against the grain when I see something happening that I don't think is right. It may irritate some of you, but I think the mods should be as open to debate and reflecting on our behaviour as anybody else.

I'm happy to throw my hat into the ring for Admin, but if a more technically adept candidate comes forward I'm equally happy to just run to stay on as a Mod.

Either way, a vote for VoR is a vote for TRANSPARENCY and COMMON SENSE.

My only reservation about offering is the convention for modding first. I am quite good with the tech stuff, I just don't feel it is my place to go for it.

You know what? Fuck it. I am standing again for modship. If anything this pre-election campaign has shown me how much I really do care about this place and I think it's best for the decision to be taken out of my hands, as I'll always have that 'what if' thought stuck in my head. I could end up with egg on my face (vegan egg substitute please), but I will never know unless I put myself out there. I fucked up a few times during my tenure due to some over zealous moderating, but I think learning from your mistakes is the key area here. I think another chance to prove my worth could be a good thing for both myself, and for Moopy.

Says who? If you are great at the technical side of things I would say by all means GO FOR IT. It really doesn’t matter how long you have been here. If you feel you can help improve the admin team or would be an asset put your name forward for crying out loud.

And yes, for what it's worth despite our Special Relationship I am very for Iguana being a mod, if anything based on his sheer presence on the board recently. Same goes for you @Soldi but I will be checking your manifesto for "your"'s :kim:

I know thanks hun, without you abstaining I’d have come third

I owe you a drink and a smooch behind iguanas back :eyes:

As much as I admire your honesty I didn’t have a clue you had fucked up, as I’m sure many others didn’t so SHUT UP about it as you are pissing all over your own parade.

And with regards to Admin vote, anyone who professes to be techhy gets my vote for absolute certain, but I don't want @octophone to step down. Can we have three admin? *hasn't read all of this thread yet*

I have deleted my previous post and apologise for any offence caused x

If someone with more technical savvy experience comes along, I'd still prefer if you continued to be on the admin team tbh.

I don't recall anyone being "irritated" by that. But I do recall more than a little disquiet over one of the strongest critics of the team around "Tag-gate" being someone who had an opportunity to contribute to the lengthy discussions in the mod forum but instead added very little and concluded what was offered with "whatever, I'll go with the majority".

NO, hun, don't do that! This forum is a place for discussion, we should all be free to post our opinions and thoughts. No one is getting on at you for anything, and no offence was caused to anyone.

It was a quick comment I made without much thought, and it COULD cause offence/upset so I felt it was best to delete it.

We don't really need three admins. That conversation happened in the staff forum when I went on hiatus. Moopy will always be bigger than one member and I personally feel we need another person who can deal with the zeroes and ones - @Indie is the absolute unsung hero of this place and he has been left with big task. I have picked up a few bits and pieces and I sorted out yr smilies for you, rehosting and finding the missing ones; that was probably the biggest thing I managed.

I think the conversation about tags should happen soon, to echo a few other people.

I’m kinda glad I am stepping down, even though I didn’t really want to. I just don’t have the chutzpah like some of you do for an election campaign.

‘Vote for me because I’m quite nice and I’d like a second chance to have a go as mod because I’ve learned from my mistakes and promise to do better next time around’ doesn’t really have the same ring to it does it?

Yes, if I was planning going for it, I think I'd be rethinking it right now.

If I didn't I'd be a nervous wreck by the end of the campaign.

After a great deal of thought and self-reflection, I have decided that this process is missing a serious candidate, one capable of REAL LEADERSHIP, and worthy of elected office that will exercise their duties in good faith and without any goopery, nor any gaggery. Moopy, I am that candidate.

Now I know what you may say. “Oh ZenGiraffe, you have only been here 5 months. You don’t have the experience, grit, or resolve to take such a prestigious role on.” And to that, I say this. I am Mx. COB. That means, as a member of the COB dynasty, I deserve this. Indeed, I would go further to say that I am entitled to it. I can only assume this vote is a formality but still, process must appear to be followed.

Some of my competitors have transformed this “election” into a farce, designed only to stroke their egos and make cheap jokes at each other’s expense. This is not acceptable, and it risks dragging Moopy back to a darker time. One only needs to dip a toe into Moopy Gold to see how much things have changed, and I am the progressive voice who will resist any degeneration into the Moopy of Gold.

For we are no longer the Moopy of fat shaming Whitney Houston. We are the Moopy of celebrating her legacy.

We are no longer the Moopy of backstabbing with anonymous tags. We are the Moopy of front stabbing with public posts.

We are no longer the Moopy of @Agnetha. We are the Moopy of @Ag.

But rhetoric alone is not enough. Moopy needs a plan, so allow me to unveil just some of the goals for my time in office. A minifesto if you like.
  • Community Underwritten New Thread Syndicate: Our daily threads have descended into chaos, so instead of leaving control in the hands of the privileged few, new daily threads will instead be nationalised and approved by a central Moopy committee with input from ALL our members.
  • Tighter regulation of guitars in ASFM contests: Detailed rules on when a guitar can be used in any Moopy song contest will be implemented, to prevent another "Alestorm Incident"
  • Quality Quinceañeras: New members, upon their 15th post, will receive a cameo from your fave and mine, Rani Rodriguez, paid for from the Moopy budget (Estimated cost, 20 pence per Cameo)
  • Universal Basic Incum : Each month, a bespoke video from @vespertine will be deposited directly into each members inbox, no questions asked.
So that is why I am here. I am the change we love to see. I am the Moopy glow up, personified.

I am the candidate we can all look up to.

@ZenGiraffe Sorry, this campaign is a bit UNCLEAR. I thought this was an Ag endorsement. :D

That is a gross misrepresentation of what happened and you know it. I was slow to respond at first because of life, but I was very involved in the discussion when it came to my attention, both inside and outside the mod forum.

Keep reading Lolly. SHE’S BACK IN THE RING.:o

What @octophone lacks in her technical skills she makes up for in other areas - she is TRUSTWORTHY and isn't going to delete the site or forums on a whim by mistake. The role of Admin is a very important one, more so than moderators due to them having a lot more responsibility. and can do things which could effect the whole forum. While I don't think it is absolutely necessary for someone to be a moderator before they become Admin, I think that someone who is Admin needs to be able to be trusted in that respect.

I'm not sure I can take it, as much as I agree it needs to happen.

Plus I'm also here for a bumper week on Indie's graph, so BRING IT ON.
