Roll up roll up - who wants to be an ADMIN?

I would like to stand.

Having started off as a Moderator and then an Administrator for a number of years alongside Indie & Star, I feel like I have the required experience and technical knowledge to provide Moopy with assurance and confidence moving forward.

I helped navigate Moopy through its toughest periods, working night and day with the other admins to pull the forum back from the brink and keep it afloat.

I chose to stand down as Administrator a few years ago, but since then I have developed my skills further, working with HTML, JavaScript and a little bit of CSS day-to-day, and also working with Xenforo (the forum’s software) and PHP (the programmatic language that powers the forum).

I’m comfortable working with the existing admin control panel and also the site’s wider control panel, and I’m comfortable discussing issues/performance with our hosts, as and when required.

There will undoubtedly be other members who stand that are more visible than I am, but I am here a lot, and I believe I can fit back in to the team with ease, helping Moopy to thrive in the years ahead.

I’d really relish the opportunity to work on behalf of you all again, if you’d have me.

I don’t. But I've known Indie and octy for twenty years.
Also, years of being moderators without any obvious erratic behaviour. That's why the convention of admins being mods first started.

I meant ANY Admin, btw, I didn't mean Indie and Oc in particular.
And it's how I'd consider any admin.

For a recently announced nominee, my knowledge of them might not be a good thing.

So now this is interesting. We have Samuel, who's been here forever and has the skills to be a great Admin. Being new is not an excuse anymore to vote for someone else, so let's see if people vote for someone competent or this is a popularity vote after all.

Well there's invariably going to be an element of popularity, isn't there? I guess it's a balance, and we all have different priorities.

It’s 2020. populism > aptitude

Oh of course, I'm not voting for people that don't like me, as if! But among the rest (pretty much everyone) I'll vote for who I truly believe are the most competent. And for mods I also consider being around all the time a key factor to get my vote.

I'll say the same thing as I said in the other thread: if we have anyone with the relevant tech knowledge, we'd like to hear from them. That's where I'm sorely lacking and I've felt that on a few occasions.

Me, on Monday.

Just saying.

I don’t. But I've known Indie and octy for twenty years.

To me, this comes across as a little cliquey, although I fully understand that isn't the intention. You're very entitled to vote for Indie and octy - the question is whether it would benefit the forum to have an additional admin who can add further technical knowledge to our already stellar lineup. Just a case of complementing what we already have. I'm just not sure I like the insinuation that the criteria for being admin is that you've known them for 20 years, as I'm sure there are some great people out there with great technical ability who wouldn't delete Moopy!

I’m throwing my hat into the ring too xx

Well if you fully understand it isn't the intention, I don't understand the point of mentioning it other than attempting to score a cheap point.

And there is no insinuation that I have to have known someone for twenty years - I was asked to explain why I didn't believe Indie or octy wouldn't delete the site, and the fact that they have been here and I've had knowledge of them for that time (never mind in Indie's case he could have done so for pretty much half that time) is of course relevant.

I agree with everything you say about it potentially being beneficial to the site to have a third admin. That is a question - but it isn't the only question. I'd personally like it to be someone who has been here longer than a few months.

I understand where you're coming from, but I would like it noted that I didn't really like how quickly my endorsement of his character was dismissed. I'm a former moderator and have been here for ten years, I know how important getting the right people in these positions is and I would never risk that for frivolous reasons. I also appreciate you wouldn't know this, but ZG and I don't have the sort of relationship where we just blindly do whatever the other wants - if I didn't think he'd be good for this I would say so.

Yes, sorry I was harsh in that 'not really', and I apologise to you both for that. It absolutely isn't a reflection on your judgement. Just that I wouldn't expect you to say anything else.

Just a thought @Star but is it worth having a vote on whether there should be 2 or 3 admin as well as a vote on who we want to be admin? It just feels like there are enough people who think 3 would be good to put it to the vote. I understand if that overcomplicates things, but thought I'd raise it as an option!

I was just waiting for Indie to come online as he does most of the tech stuff. Recently he posted he was happy plodding on by himself as he has done in the past. I think the current admin team might have more thoughts on whether we need 2 or 3 admin as they know if 2 can do the job or if they need help. Then the community can decide who those 2 or 3 people are.

Thanks Ms S! x

3 if it’s an addition

but if it’s just 2 then best not change anything

no offence to the new ones who offered but IF IT AINT BROKE etc

I'm happy to go with whatever the need is. And I think Indie is best qualified to comment there, so I'll accept his opinion.

I'll be honest and continue to say that I dont think it's necessary - but if consensus is three then I won't stand in the way.

Although comments of "indie/octy + tech guy" are a bit odd because by implication it assumes I've not been able to handle to tech side (I have)

Ok, so we've had a chat and got a way to combine both votes as Iguana suggested.

You will be able to vote for UP TO THREE admin. However in order to be elected the candidate must recieve at least 50% confidence. So for example;
10 people vote and the votes are as follows
8 for Kylie
7 For Dannii
4 for Brendan
1 for Trump
Kylie and Dannii would be elected as they fulfil both criteria.

If the votes were;
8 for Kylie
7 for Dannii
5 for Brendan
1 for Trump
Kylie, Dannii and Brendan would be elected

If there is a draw, I'm ded.

Sounds very fair - really good idea with the 50% threshold. I'm impressed by the DEMOCRACY of it all! :disco:
