I'm banking on Something In Your Eyes being life changing

A Stepsed up cover of "Vem é dé du vill ha" would make a PERFECT b-side :disco:

:disco: Steps Schlager Songbook

Det gor Ont!
Den Vilda!
Jag vill om du vågar!

(Pernilla Wahlgren spins in her grave)

From the GT interview:

How would you describe the sound of the album?

H: It’s very different to Tears On The Dancefloor. That was like a freight train and we always knew that album was going to be a club banger. Every song was very dance influenced, but this one there are lots of different influences. There’s 70’s and 80’s vibes, a lot of 80s-style ballads. So it’s a mixed bag, it’s more of a journey this time rather than a party.

A lot of 80s ballads... REALLY?!

Sorry, what's the cover, who is the original by, and can someone post a youtube link, please?

The fun starts at 1m 36s

It was Jenny Silver's entry for Melodifestivalen in 2011. It make it to the second chance round and into the hearts of every gay who heard it. It has its own built in dance routine.

Jenny v Love Generation was like gay Sophie’s Choice in AC 2011 (only for LG to knock out Jenny and then get knocked out themselves - traumatic!).

It was a night of ridiculous ups and downs and the highest of drama. Perfect!

Speaking of that HELLISH NIGHT, I would totally not be mad at a Steps reading of I Thought It Was Forever (with Claire as frumpy old Shirl trying and failing to keep up with her far more glamorous bandmates, naturally)

That GT interview where they refer to No Way, No Way as "Ma-na Ma-na" is up there with gays typing "Hit Me Baby One More Time" or "If You Wanna Be My Lover"

:D

Heartbreak à la Clara

I had almost entirely forgotten this happened!

A late shout for Kalla Natter to be added to this roster. The added benefit being they can do the whole performance seated (Lisa).

And 80s power ballad is something right up my street but certainly not an albums worth :D

Disappointed with that GT quote, I was looking forward to another freight train.

Jenny really deserved to go through. I hope they copy the mic stands :disco:

Really love this now, in the same vein as SOTD but more oomph (so, Alcazar, with more oomph).

does anyone else think it’s time to ditch the dance routines? I know it’s their trademark but they haven’t really been good since the revival. I was watching Story of a heart last night and loving it until that shirty routine kicked in

Yes, I actually agree.

The only (well, main for me) part of the whole last campaign that just looked a bit SAD was all the dance routines. No issue with a simply hand gesture or three on the main chorus lines etc, but Story of a Heart in particular was just really quite embarrassing to watch a full routine for the whole chorus.

Oddly I actually think this one is the best since the comeback, but that's not saying much.

I imagine they are always going to be expected to do the dance routines for the old songs live, so perhaps they just feel they may as well for the new ones?

I can't say I ever felt they were 'good' originally - they were just Steps. I don't think at this stage it really adds anything, but they don't really detract much, either.

I literally can’t imagine Steps without choreography... what would they do instead?!

Well I don’t mean NO choreo, but the robotic aerobics business stuff... it was alright at the time but it feels a bit like it’s through gritted teeth (and stiff arms)

I’m really living for this video now, and I’ve been considering the choreo - they look great doing a few moves as a group, I just hate the “ok here’s the dance routine bit”, which doesn’t make a lot of sense anyway, what’s the clapperboard move got to do with anything?

maybe they just need better choreo :D

assorted thoughts:
They all look great. H is looking his age a bit I suppose. Lee hasn’t aged, LSL is doing her best, Claire looks fab, and Faye is a literal goddess of beauty.

LSL’s stylist hates her for the group stuff though, no neck and that little hair teat on top, was the stylist watching Kung Fu Panda the night before or something?

keep getting distracted when Lee reaches up and exposes that T-shirt that I always think is his skin

those neon people on the city backdrop look fabulous, I wish they had been the members. That would be a great album cover

I think the video is as slick as it can be. It's a total step up (tee hee) production wise.

OMG the 5 neon people on the city backdrop, ARE they Steps? The shot of all five of them together, I think it’s L-R: Lee, Faye, Claire, H, LSL?

Lee is the only one recognisable, and I needed to pause/unpause youtube a lot to work it out :D

Is it supposed to be them in the future? I can buy Lee not changing, but Faye in a cheap pink Bob? I think she’ll be even YOUNGER

The hair teat is frankly quite ludicrous, but take it away and you're left with Adolf Hitler.

Did all of the ballads have choreography? I can't remember if they did.

I do agree that Steps need choreography but they probably could've shelved it for Story of a Heart

In case their choreographer is reading this I want to go on the record and say that I thought the Story of a Heart choreo was very appropriate to the song and good

Personally, I find that clapperboard choreo quite lovely. We didn't need to see LSL pussy-popping in 2020.

With no regards whatsoever for the charts, has the single done FAIRLY WELL on airplay/ downloads/ streaming etc.? I mean, FOR THEM...?

Yeah it’s done ok.

#10 - #16 on sales, and should end about #25 this week.
Added now to radio two so should hit the airplay chart in a week or two.
350k streams on Spotify and YouTube each in a fortnight.

I.e nothing great, but similar to Scared of the Dark which seems about fair?

I guess I’d just hoped a bit more on streaming as I’d thought maybe the older listener had potentially embraced that platform a bit more since 2017, so for it to have just as many video watches as Spotify streams is the only thing that is slightly disappointing.

Similar to Scared Of The Dark should be seen as a result for them, shouldn't it, considering that had far more 'comeback' energy attached to it.

Plus this new song is nowhere near as good as Scared of the Dark; very shouty

On the basis of no source other than YouTube, apparently ‘Something in Your Eyes’ is the second single.

Some article apparently had that in it today. Seems logical, they shot a video for the next single last week and with 9 weeks to the album I imagine it will be out a few weeks before to launch.

I wondered if it was doing OK, 350k YouTube videos didn't seem that much when SOTD was over 6M views, even Neon Blue got 1.4M

but I guess I thought views work as front-loaded as sales, maybe that’s not right

I'm excited for SIYE but I can't see any way that it won't be a slight disappointment for not living up to the original.

I hope Something In Your Eyes isn’t gay interest only :eyes:
