your children if you had them might hate you and refuse to do it ANYWAY so I wouldn't worry
Probably but at least I'd get a monthly visit out of obligation.

I'd like to find a little collection of childless old people and live in a communal apartment block. It would be like living in halls again. Or a retirement home.

Don’t they have GAY old folks home nowadays, I bet they’re fucking ROTTEN! Why has channel 4 not done a docuseries about one yet?

Do they? If so then that could be nice. Or one of the resort old people's shared houses they go to in Iceland and India in that Marigold TV show.

I used to have this running thought through my mind that because my family hadn't had a young tragic death ever (that I know of) that we were DUE ONE and it would probably be me. This led to weird thoughts while I was driving of "that lorry could just jackknife into me if he wanted" or "i could just jerk this steering wheel to the side and go into the other lane". I was fairly nonchalant about both thoughts, and more weirded out about the the sheer fact I was having them. :D

I don't want to die, but I don't think by the time I get to 80 I'll have probably have had enough. So no I'm not scared. I'm more scared of sitting in a hospital bed and having to socialise with all my family.

Not necessarily scared of dying but the idea of death at relatively young age is kind of terrifying - for the best part of May and June I was basically sure I had cancer and lumps had formed and had spun off so far mentally that I almost accepted that things might come to a close in the near future. Turned out to be other crappy stuff that won't kill me off anytime soon but being confronted with that was kind of brutal. Especially playing it over in your head how you'd break down a possibly terminal illness diagnosis to your parents.

Glad to have contributed some much needed levity to this topic.

Although I don’t want to die, I don’t feel that bothered about what happens after (I assume you won’t be aware of anything, and you just won’t exist).
Having come pretty close to death 8 years ago the whole process was absolutely terrifying. I’d rather it was instant.

There's still a lot I want to do, but I don't FEAR not getting them done.

I’m already dead loves x

Being alive is fucking excellent. The idea of infinite non-existance sounds fucking shit.

So i am certainly uncomfortable with the thought of dying.

I have always been properly terrified of dying but the last couple of years, that has mellowed a bit- guess it’s a natural part of ageing.

Being a CANCER SURVIVOR, though, I did actually think about it a lot this year, even though in the end it was a somewhat disappointingly MINOR affliction :D

I’m thinking a lot about death at the moment as well with the imminent passing of my Dad and his illness. It must be mind blowing to know you’re about to go in a terrible, terrible way.

Oh gosh yeah I remember that. Did they ever find out what happened??

I'm not scared of being dead, but I am scared of how I'll die and how painful it'll be.

And I'm scared I'll die before I feel I'm ready.

In all seriousness, my major health scares this year have given me a new perspective on life and death.

After being rushed to hospital in the back of an ambulance with the sirens blaring, suffering from a suspected stroke; and then having MRI/CT scans and having to stay on the stroke ward made me reflect on my own mortality in a way that I have never done before.

(Most of you know about this - it turned out not to be a stroke, but a fairly severe case of Bell’s Palsy. The right side of my face was paralysed, which took a couple of months to recover from.)

Only that some kind of autoimmune disorder made my brain swell and caused a seizure.
I still suffer from the symptoms occasionally now. I’m also covered in scars from where wires were and all the things they cut out of me to investigate!

Oh gosh I didn't know that. Hope you're doing better now. We did have another Moopy member have a stroke in his 30's :(

That's mad. You were in a coma for weeks weren't you?

March 31st to Friday 13th April. It was the coma that was terrifying. I fully believed I’d died.
Eventually I woke up tied to the bed because I’d continually ripped out any wires they tried to put in me and I was given a bit of paper at one point on which I’d written “Am I Dead?” 10 times.
It’s all quite funny now but wasn’t at the time.

I had entirely forgotten your DRAMA @Lee. What a rotten time it was for you, but so glad it didn’t end terribly.

I was really trying to word that well, when all I was trying to say was:

GLAD UR NOT DEAD HUN

I had a SEIZURE a while back due to banging my head which kind of changed my entire perspective of dying. When it happened I had absolutely no recollection or memory of it - and I guess dying must be much the same. You hardly KNOW when you are dead :D

So I'm not that bothered now. I'm at peace that it will inevitably happen one day, and I've already lead a life that I've great enjoyed - providing things don't take a DRASTIC TURN FOR THE WORST I think I will be able to depart at peace with how I existed.

I had completely forgotten about your entire, well, I guess episode is a word for it, @Lee. But now that you've mentioned it, I do remember that you were just gone for a while around that time. What a thing to go through, yikes.

In retrospect I do think that negative experiences make you stronger. I guess there is something empowering about knowing I escaped from the embassy rather than having to be rescued, even if at the time that only felt like a small mercy.

My gratitude for life does make me question why I have had to spend the last four evenings listening to the Mariah Carey audible but that is perhaps a different discussion.
