Relisten #3: Kylie Minogue & Impossible Princess - 21/10/20 19:00

Surrender, particularly her vocal and the entire middle 8, is so Justify My Love. And by no means a pastiche or a cheap imitation.

It glides along like silk. Gorge.

09 Confide In Me
09 Surrender

I remember being a bit gutted when I found out that Jimi Harry had offered Surrender to Tia Carere first.

"If I Was Your Lover" is a bit Paula Abdul and hasn't aged the best - not my favorite but not bad.

Yeah if I was Your Lover is alright if you like that sort of thing.

The original version however is much much better.

God the effortless confidence of this album and the way it BURSTS out of the gate all guns blazing. It all sounds supremely easy - the exact inverse of Let's Get To It.

There are little bits of Erotica, Janet. and perhaps even Dangerous era MJ in this one... oh god the way she goes for it with the belting. We hadn't heard much of that from her BEFORE and certainly not much SINCE. Bitch sounds fantastic.

09 Confide In Me
09 Surrender
08 If I Was Your Lover

Surrender is lush. I love the M People style voices in the background. Same goes for the upcoming Where Is The Feeling. It really is that 90s coffee table music I've always loved.

Nothing beats Confide naturellement.

It sounds alright, although the US influences are more explicit than subtle. I'm a sucker for dated 1994 production.

This.

I think it is the song on the record that dates it the most.

Do you any playlists (of your own, or by others) of this kind of sound specifically beb?

Oh the album version of WITF. It’s nice but all about Brothers in Rhythm for me... But then again that’s basically a different song.

Where is the Feeling probably sounded a bit dated by 1994. Its a bit Ce Ce Peniston lite. Not that, that's a bad thing.

Where Is The Feeling is such an outrageous DREAM of a song! It sounds like liberation, like freedom, like riding through an LSD jungle on horseback at a gentle canter and being at one with nature and totally at peace with yourself. It's BLISS.

It's also hooks on hooks on hooks - no part of this song isn't catchy as shit. Such sophisticated songwriting, supreme melodies. Ugh. Queen.

I really do love the album version of Where Is The Feeling. The break in her voice towards the end is wonderful.

It gets a bad rap.

Love the album version of Where Is The Feeling but would prefer it without the drawn out ending. My go to was the Bish Bosh mix which I remember her doing on Noel’s House Party. I cannot fathom why I had that show on.

Everyone did.

I honestly love the ending where you are essentially just left with her voice.

omg

She really only started playing with her voice on this album didn’t she. You can tell how much more confident and adventurous she is compared to the last albums.

12 Confide In Me
07 Surrender
08 If I Was Your Lover
08 Where is the Feeling

I was gutted when it was remixed/re-recorded for the single release though yeah, that’s good too.
