Really hope i'm able to get out cycling as well just to GET OUT THE HOUSE and stop my body decaying even further - I remember during the last lockdown hearing about people being stopped cycling because it "looked like they were cycling for leisure rather than exercise."

Meanwhile I can't believe the gyms have closed down there. Oh I'd be devastated if that happened up here, I've only just started trying to get back to my old self with limited time to do so and the boost it has started giving me been wonderful.

The outside world is my gym. As long as i can go for long bike rides i'm happy. And even if i'm not allowed, i'm still going to.

So just to add to the ridiculousness, it has now been announced that places scheduled to go into tier 3 on Monday will now remain on Tier 2 until Thursday.

My friend the landlady is furious, because of course they've been running down their stock in anticipation of closing on Monday, so now they're high and dry with nothing to sell, but if they don't open for those three days they can't claim any support because it would be 'voluntary'.

Utter shambles.

We've not been told anything yet. But the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons who are out governing body, have a statement up from last week for clincis in the Tier 3 lockdown areas that basically says "can it be treated over the phone, is it a risk to life and animal health, can it be postponed". So if that's their rule for previous tier 3 areas I would assume we would follow suit meaning routines get cancelled.

However, considering our clinics on the island alone have over 4000 vaccines overdue, I'd be surprised if we could afford to postpone them.
 
Just passing through town. I'd say at least 200 people in the queue for Primark.

I just hope the supermarket queues don't become similar to the first lockdown. It was easy to wait in the Spring. Hopefully people will realise that panic buying is pointless.

They already have - I know Tesco have had signs up with limitations around a few things for several weeks.

Surely people will realise that the supermarkets didn't close last time and that they got through it just fine. But maybe with Xmas looming in people's minds, folk might start worrying about not getting their turkey etc.

The local coop here where I go to for bits and bobs in between shops certainly are not abiding to those rules. Throughout lockdown it was a nightmare and any time you went it was queued down the street as they were allowing such little numbers in but it seems to be just the same as it was before coronavirus again. We are in phase 2 though so that may be why?
 
My local co-op seems to be a free for all, but Aldi has the red light/green light entrance system, and both Tesco and Lidl have put staff back on the door for about two or three weeks.
 
I'll be honest, I haven't really been following the Tiers and Phases, mainly because I've really kept to the original rules: I didn't "eat out to help out" and I haven't been to a pub since March. I saw what was coming, like most people really.
Part of why I didn't have to think about them is because I was working throughout and I don't have family elsewhere in the UK so I didn't have to consider travel restrictions.

I think all the different rules and variations just led to people looking for the loopholes. Which is part of why we're here now.
 
We're on Tier 2 and I imagine that most people will be breaking the rules hard between now and Thursday. I have social plans every night.

I feel lockdown should be UK wide, and even though the statiscians are telling us the virus is not as prevalent in Scotland I don’t think the tiered system is going to work. The rate of transmission slowing down also sounds like a CROCK to me when new cases, hospitalisations and deaths are all on the rise.
 
The numbers are sky high right now, but surely they were back in March. There's just more testing now.

Not that I'm doubting its severity.

A guy on my Facebook was posting about how those that need to shield should shield but that it's time for the rest of us to get on with our lives as normal.

Yes, you have fun getting on with life as normal during a RAINY BRITISH WINTER where everything but ALDI is shut.

It usually is by the time it start trending. Earlier in the week "fanny" was trending - I was keen to find out but all I got were people going "hahahaha Fanny is trending hahahaha!".

selfishly I hope she gives me two weeks, and I do sort of think it would make sense to assess the tier system up here but I suspect we’ll end up in lockdown shortly

Yes, Boris announced it like 'I know how hard it was for everyone shielding last time, so I won't ask you to do it again', but lets be real, that was a nice way to spin 'we're not offering you lot any support this time'.

It's the money that will drive it. Unless the Treasury confirm Scotland will get the money we need when we need it, we will likely lockdown now regardless. PMQs Wednesday and FMQs Thursday will likely be telling in this regard

sorry to sound like an old, but it basically all comes back to capitalism right? it has completely fucked everything. it's made a small handful of people astonishingly rich and determined to fuck the poor in order to stay rich, and everybody else desperate to BECOME rich. and with that comes the great wealth divide, widespread cynicism, shamelessly selfish and indecent behaviour in the name of rising the class ranks, the rolling back of all values previously considered worthwhile to hold, easily stoked hatred for people seen as 'other' ("they're taking our jobs!") and so much more chaos. government, which used to be about keeping countries running smoothly, at some transitioned to being about keeping the vast incomes of the very wealthy as steady as possible. it started some time around the 50s or 60s and then in the 90s evolved into this unstoppable express train of desire and excess. everything can be traced back to the pursuit of money in a society that has lost the ability or willingness to function on any value axis other than the purely financial. the most troubling part of all being the actual surefire knowledge that it can never be reversed and we're all just IN THIS until WE DROP DEAD
 
You’re right of course, but the main issue is that nobody has figured out an alternative yet. The west has entirely rejected and discredited socialism - it needs to be repackaged and reborn as something else if people are ever going to get on board with the idea of a fairer society.

I do think though that what you’re describing didn’t begin in the 50s. As long as there has been a hierarchy of power and wealth, there will be a class system of rich and poor. And for that you can go back to the Stone Age. It’s inherent in our DNA. I feel like if we’re going to get truly progressive it needs an undoing of the old power tropes and while everyone talks about revolutions, whether peacefully or forcefully, there is very little evidence of any long lasting change.
 
Not really sure what thread to put this in but I have just walked in the door from my friends and her mum died of covid tonight and I did break the rules to be there with her as she is an only child and her dad is in a home with dementia. Her mum was healthy, but elderly (74) and died within 2 days of being at the doctor for what she thought was a chest infection and then hospitalised and dead. The track and trace will not work as she was a social butterfly and tended to go and keep a lot of older people in her community company as she was the leader of an assisted living complex so god only knows what’s next to come. This virus is relentless.
