And are we getting a Lisa Scott Lee picture disc

To be fair, Something In Your Eyes has only been out 2 weeks and only this week added to radio two. I'd assume next Friday we get a remix of it and then release week several performances etc.

Ok fair enough I’m not in the UK to see what’s going on, maybe I’m stuck in the past when the album would always follow a week or two after the single. Good old days

when is it out?

Last one opened with 36k first week, got to about 97k as VOR said before re-issue, sold 11.5k first week reissue and about 125k all up.

So with this I think anything under 15k would be rather disappointing. 15-20k ok, 20-25k good and anything above fantastic.

The bad news is that Hold My Heart is a “piano-led, adult contemporary ballad” with “prominent H & Lee vocals.” :manson:

The good news is we’re getting the 7th Heaven remix of Something In Your Eyes alongside it.

The something in your eyes remix is a bit underwhelming isn’t it

Yes :(

Thankfully I love the (their) original now, but had hoped a bit more tits-in-the-air than it is.

I think Miley may nudge them as well, depending on whether they do 15k or 25k. I'd be perfectly happy with a #3 to be honest.
is it out the same day? Miley has a top 5 single that's been the radio #1 for 2 months plus a Dua Lipa collab out next week - her album will outsell Steps :D

*watches Miley bomb in at #6 while Steps and Barlow fight it out at the top*

Ariana only 'sold' 28k, do we really think Miley is a dead cert for a similar number or better? A #5 single doesn't equal a huge selling album toots.

I'd say Steps will easily outdo her on sales/physical format which still is the biggest determinant in the UK album chart.

I don’t think Miley will outsell Steps, certainly not in the first week anyway.

I think we are comparing apples oranges and bananas here

Ariana is a big fan base act with a single that’s unlikely to get new converts (possibly the opposite)
Miley isn’t that big an albums act but she’s having a huge radio hit and a top 5 hit with legs right now
Steps are a decent fan base act with a single that’s unlikely to get new converts

well I guess that’s comparing apples oranges and tangerines.

if I had to bet, I’d say Miley will sell more than Steps and neither are especially surefire for the no.1

Oh neither will be #1, Gary Barlow will have that signed up I'd say.

I'd say Steps will be #3 and Miley #4, with god knows who at #2.

Well by that logic, Little Mix will definitely outsell Kylie. Oh, wait...

Steps are a heritage act at this point - acts who normally do much better on physical sales than on streams. And their album is going to be available on multiple formats, for the loon fans to snap up. Miley will be relying almost entirely on streams. Of course, her streams will be three to five times that of Steps, but as we've seen this week, that doesn't always win the race for a number 1 album.

Midnight Sky has been a far bigger hit and permeated the UK consciousness for much longer than Sweet Melody. I believe Miley is looking at a 25k minimum debut so I'd be surprised if Steps can top that, but let's see.

well, consider me told then! please copywrite all my future posts, o great one.

But babes I just don’t get on what basis Miley is looking to do those kind of numbers. Moopy seem obsessed with her thanks to one decent single, but I really don’t see why she would sell as much as Ariana who is a much bigger chart force than Miley has ever been.

Anyhoo, let’s wait and see :disco:

I do think it's possible that Steps will have a bigger first week than Miley, if they promote heavily.

Obviously streaming and hopefully future hits will give her album much longer legs though.

Will Miley be relying almost entirely on streams? Midnight Sky must be one of the biggest singles of the year in terms of actual sales.

I think they got it for the release of the Deluxe Edition of the album, with Dancing With A Broken Heart. But I'm not sure they got it for the original release of the album.

If Steps and Sophie do Strictly I honestly think my eyes will glisten with pride. Maybe ALJAZ can teach Faye how to improve her window wipers charge to the front :D

Does Miley actually SELL ALBUMS? Wasn't Younger Now essentially a TOTAL FLOP?

I'd imagine Steps would probably do better out of the gate due to fan sales and formats ALONE.

They did Scared of the Dark for Halloween around the time of the re-release, I don't think they did Dancing With A Broken Heart.

It would be nice if the Strictly bookers showed some love for their alumni but I won't hold my breath.

Well they did get on last time, and Faye did rather well with them, so it’s a possibility.

I’d love Graham Norton but I really can’t see it.

Yeah they didn’t get on for the original release of Tears because Strictly wasn’t on at that point so there’s every possibility.

I wonder if the 2 metre thing might be a problem for getting bookings though, particularly on something like This Morning which has such a tiny stage.

I hope I'm wrong but I have a feeling they'll be lucky to go Top 5 this time

It’s a possibility but I’d be shocked. Having various formats and being very much a fanbase act I think to miss the top five would mean selling less than about 10k, which would be a massive drop from the 36k odd from last time. I think week two they will sink but I’m thinking #3 odd week one down to #26 odd week two.

but two thirds of Ariana's sales came from streaming and the rest from fans buying formats. she has a big enough fanbase that she can sell without appealing to the GP. Miley has been building her GP appeal very steadily since Nothing Breaks Like a Heart went to #2 and the UK was its best market (two years ago now). There's so much goodwill toward her, she's been #1 on radio and iTunes for weeks (illustrating appeal outside the fanbase), Midnight Sky ten weeks top 10, now the perfectly-timed Dua collab and all the hype that comes with - I'd be quite surprised if she DIDN'T do a minimum of 20k.

it's worth pointing out that Mildred only has CDs, no vinyls, so Steps could edge it if they go all-out on formats. but I'm sure Miley will do really well.

Another album review: https://www.gigwise.com/reviews/3393103/album-review--steps-what-the-future-holds

Track descriptions:

- sentimental ‘Father’s Eyes’

- strikingly beautiful ‘Hold My Heart’ :side-eye:

- There are times on the thumpingly fun chorus of ‘Heartbreak In The City’ where the metaphorical curtain is pulled back to reveal something new and fresh, a definite embrace of modern pop sensibilities, and we are reminded that whilst the group may have a staple sound, they are more than willing to adapt to current trends, and more so, to take advantage sonically and technologically of what is available to further their creative and artistic horizons.

- The familiar buoyant sounding techno influences on ‘One Touch’ and ‘To The Beat of My Heart’ - the latter a lyrical navigation of heated dancefloors and one night romances - audible also in the smooth minor-groove of ‘Come and Dance With Me’, are testaments to how ‘keeping it simple’ may sometimes be the smartest move.

Thank fuck LSL is on the way. They need to do some promo from next week onwards, it’s all a bit QUIET.

I mean for obvious reasons, but they need to be VISIBLE
