Exactly. The mental health hit of not spending Christmas with your family will be much less than if you ended up killing your nan, so I'm not even sold on that argument.
 
The only person I can really do Christmas with this year is my brother and he did invite me, but he's also an unemployable conspiracy theorist who hasn't been taking notice of any of the rules since the start of the pandemic (and has also confirmed several of his similar friends will be there). I'm not being rude if I say no, right?

Of course they are. No-one gives a wild fuck about social distancing once they get in there. I had someone queue right behind me a couple of weeks ago, not bothering with the floor stickers and so close to me that his basket kept clattering into my legs. Idiot. He was a nose-dipper too.

The other issue is people touching more things than they actually buy. Folk will lift something, examine it in detail and then put it back.

I’m not a supermarket snob and used to shop at Asda quite often for certain products just because it was cheaper there. Last time I went hardly anyone was wearing a mask properly including staff and no distancing at all. Strictly sticking to Sainsbury’s now.

The supermarkets are all letting loads more people in bar Waitrose from what I’ve seen anyway. First lockdown was loads of queues but this one I’ve not queued once.

I've had to queue at Aldi, Lidl, M&S and Tesco. None of them queu long though, and I'm quite sure all of them are busier regardless of if there are queues or not.
 
I’m confused how people are catching it in supermarkets tbh. Just how close together are people getting and how long are they spending there?

I thought the whole thing about transmission of the virus is that it is about spending extended periods in proximity to people and that transmission from touching things is pretty minimal? @Cloud - can you confirm or deny this?

However, I would also say it is hardly surprising given that they are the one of very few indoor public places that are actually open in England. Once you take pubs and restaurants out of the equation then it was kind of inevitable. What is more important is how high transmission actually is in supermarkets.

I’ve been mostly going to shops quite late in the evenings to avoid crowds anyway meaning I thankfully haven’t been in any that are uncomfortably busy.
 
Where I shop there isn’t any hand sanitiser at the entrance (and I’d have thought a lot of people have become a lot less bothered about taking the correct hygiene precautions this time round), so having a number of people pick up items, particularly fresh veg/fruit with unclean hands certainly won’t be helping at all.

People also DITHER and spend a lifetime deciding what brand of LONG GRAIN RICE they fancy. It's very very difficult to keep your distance (and when you do some fuckwit tends to squidge in the middle of you to join in the great LONG GRAIN RICE debate)

The PARADOX OF CHOICE. More is less.

Genuinely one of the reasons why I prefer Aldi and Lidl.
 
I've only visited three supermarkets since September, my local Tesco, local Asda and the Morrisons near work. Morrisons have a woman outside next to the sanitiser stations then another woman inside near the baskets who asks if you want a squirt of sanitiser as you go past then inside the store are two more sanitiser stations then you enter the shopping area and there are more stations and they're also dotted around inside the store reminding you to take a squirt if you've touched items then another set of stations on the way to the tills/self checkouts saying the same. I didn't see anybody without a mask in there today, including the security guards, the staff and the woman on the fag counter. Local Tesco is full of sleeve-tattooed fuckwits without masks wearing long shorts and trainers and half the staff aren't wearing them either so I only go there if it's absolutely necessary. Last time I went in Asda it may as well have been 2018 because very few had masks on so I haven't been there in months.
 
The only person without a mask in my grocery store today was the police officer :goodgrief:
 
Back to the lockdown for us, no more shopping malls or outdoor restaurants.
 
Ontario but not all of it, only Toronto and two more regions which is stupid because you can get to the other suburbs in 30 minutes if you have a car.
 
That doesn't make sense and is a perfect example of why local lock-downs won't do anything
 
A bit like when Manchester had local restrictions but anyone could come to the city for the day/weekend and not follow any :eyes:
 
Well that one definitely worked and it didn't spread to all of England :eyes:
