Precisely. The three household rule has essentially sent the message that anything goes for five days, and people have made plans accordingly. And now they are going to scrap them? Okaaay...

Why would a multi person household if you're talking about a family under the same roof even need to mix with another multi person household? They should never have made it that vague and specified it should be for single adult households in the same way bubbles work.
 
Tbh, I’m now thinking of just going home or at least back to Scotland. I wasn’t planning on doing that, as I was trying to be sensible, BUT I really don’t like the idea of staying in London and not being able to see my friends. :(

When I was a kid we never saw anyone else at Christmas anyway!
 
Also doing this so late in the day is just :(. The whole point of the 5 days was to help people get through Christmas taking in to account people’s mental well being. But snatching it away at the last minute is truly awful.

Like my bloody neighbours, 8 of them in that house yet last night they had another 2 similar households over making 15 odd people.

Exactly. If they'd just said no in the first place I wouldn't be so upset. And using the excuse of this new strain. Regardless of that the 5 day plan was stupid.
 
This is a mess. I have a flatmate who, at best, I tolerate. He’s got people coming here on Christmas Day and they’re not my cup of tea either. I feel even worse than if I would do if I was on my own here.

To my Mum’s. If these new restrictions do include the east of England then I’m stuffed. If it’s just London and the south east, then I should be ok. So I still have hope. Different news outlets are saying different things at the moment.
 
Awful. The whole thing is appalling.

Christmas shouldn’t be any different to the other festivities that were affected and cancelled but that doesn’t mean they HAVE to fuck people over with little to no notice.

Is the area your mum is in currently tier 3? If not, I don't imagine anywhere will be leapfrogging into this new tier.

Where is she? I think some of the East is doing better than others.

Were they really cancelled? The Diwali fireworks were going on for over a week round my way separate to Bonfire night.
 
Just had another thought, how will this affect people who have to travel THROUGH London to get to their Christmas bubble? Can I just pretend I've come from the Isle of Wight?

She’s in Cambridgeshire. Having read a bit more, I may be ok for now, as it might just affect Essex and Suffolk in the east of England. Feeling relieved if that’s the case, although I do feel for everyone this will affect.
 
My Dad and step mum (London Tier 3) were going to go to a hotel in Brighton (Tier 2) to spend Christmas Day with a friend of theirs at her house, which they'd booked a while ago before London was moved to Tier 3. I spoke to him this morning and he was adamant that it was still OK for them to go. I don't think so any more. Not bothered about them so much as they have each other anyway. It's my mum by herself... and selfishly me as I do not want to spend Christmas with my mad flatmate, who is strangely looking forward to being alone.
 
I mean let’s be honest, there is absolute no way they will be able to police this. So I wouldn’t be too worried @Kate

True. I'm heading to my mum's after finishing work on Tuesday 22nd which is a quick tube and train. A shorter journey than some take to their places of work.

:( Yes. She has parents in Wales who she fell out with a few years ago and a sister in Australia so she's pretty much by herself with no other choice. The last 2 Christmases were hosted at our flat, but mum was adamant she didn't want to spend it with her this year as she was "too odd".

So it looks like unless you have somewhere local you are planning on going, you won’t be able to travel at all :(

What's the point of "forming a bubble" for one day? That's not a bubble, that's just mixing for one day.

So if you don't have your own transport, you're fucked. This is surely discrimination.
 
Only thing that is amusing me is all the usual suspects on Facebook who are pro Boris because he’s such a lovable lad who has messy hair are now kicking off because they have ordered their turkey and cheeses for the family coming over .
 
Wonder when anything would take effect? If a "travel ban" is announced from midnight tonight then the roads this evening will be horrendous, even though most people won't be able to justify their end destination.
