OH GOD

On the PLUS side I will get a bloody refund for one of my flights through the horrific EASY JET

Making policy announcements from the burner account of a Sunday Times journalist who lost the password for her main account now it seems.

(The account is unverified but is followed by a bunch of ST journalists and Jeremy Corbyn, so SEEMS legit... WHO KNOWS?)

I’ve seen similar tweets, and apparently we’ll hear at 4pm

fuck right off

How is tier 4 different from tier 3 in any practical sense? Does it include the closing of non essential retail?

There's no way my mother won't see her grandchildren and great grandchildren at Christmas. It's essentially what has kept her going for months. I imagine plenty of over 70s feel the same.

Yes I feel my parents will be the same. That's why I had been planning a socially distanced Xmas (we were literally just deciding on how to move the sofas so that they're not next to each other).

What an absolute fuck up, if this is what happens, though. People made plans based on the ridiculous three household for five day rule, and now they are having it ripped away from them, there's no way that a majority are going to stay within the new rules.

I mean ultimately we'll stick by the rules. But it's a pretty shitty thing to do so late on. I even bought snacks this morning (and paper plates to reduce contamination!)

SHIT. Conflicting reports so far as to whether this is going to affect just the south east and London or the east of England too.

If it’s the latter, then it looks like my Christmas plans are cancelled and it’ll be a third in a row with nowhere to go for me.

This is going to crush me :(

Tons of people weren't going to follow the 3 household rule and tons won't follow this new rule either. Especially with a last minute change.

My parents wanted me to still come to Thanksgiving even when I had tested positive for COVID, and there are probably a lot of parents who feel more strongly about seeing their children than they do about avoiding getting sick.

It’s shit, yes. But I don’t think there is any alternative with this new variant of Coronavirus that has taken everyone by surprise.

You have us!!

I guess they know that SOME people will. And that this may rein in some of the other rule breaking.

But I still think had they not announced the 5 day 3 household nonsense in the first place we'd be better off.

I'm very lucky, really. My work life has been largely unaffected by COVID, in as much as I still go out to work every day (I just spend less time at the office), I'm in a relationship so am not alone, and we're also both quite antisocial so the lack of much of a social life hasn't hit me nearly as hard as it has some people.

As much as I had that wobble in October (and although COVID certainly added to my stress levels, it wasn't responsible for that), I know things could have been much worse.

I'm glad I decided myself not to go home yesterday now because I feel like I had some agency in the decision and didn't just have Christmas SNATCHED AWAY by Boris.

Oh for fucks sake . I blame Margate for this round here . Riddled .

Tracey Emin read this post and is now working on VIDEO ART about it. I hope you're happy.

So under that rule I wouldn't be able to go to my mum in our bubble and I’d have no food and she would have lots of stuff left uneaten. Ridiculous to announce this so late. They can fuck off with that.

If it wasn't for the children I'd probably feel similar to you. I just know how much it's upsetting my mum not being able to spend time with them though. I was kinda looking forward to Xmas day.

I wonder if they'll have allowances for single people
Exactly. All of this "household' rubbish for so long. Some households are 5+ people and the mixing of up to 3 households could have meant 10+ people, whereas in my family 3 households is 3 people.

Some places reporting that it’ll be London and the south east, others are saying it’s the east of England too.

You're right!

I've been trying to do things safely, but it can be hard to see people being unsafe in ways that honestly look more fun (bars and clubs are packed here). But the more people who are safe the better
