I wonder if anyone’s had the foresight to cancel this evening’s trains.

We’re still keeping our Christmas Eve-Boxing Day bubble going considering a) the virus doesn’t take more than one day to spread so it would make no difference and b) my parents have just spent hundreds of pounds on food :D

I’m presuming I’ll be allowed back into London as it will be for WORK PURPOSES? Not that I’m in a great rush to go back.

Boris' answer to that shielding question was DREADFUL, even by his standards.

It shows how much timing plays on these things. If Christmas has been 3 months ago, it would be Liverpool in Tier 4 and London would be cracking on. Now it’s the opposite.

I'm so sorry @MARY, I know it's not the same but hopefully you can have a lovely delayed Christmas with your mum in a few months' time :emoji_heart:

I know it sounds silly, but I can’t stop crying. The last two years, I’ve spent Christmas on my own being a junkie, basically. Sort my life out and all I wanted was a nice Christmas. Sounds so superficial when it’s just another day really. But it hurts.

I know it’s easy to say but you mustn’t connect the two. It’ll just grind you down. Your sobriety is an achievement regardless of covid and you’ll still get your chance to have a nice normal Christmas at some point. It’s really shit. Just see it as we’re still in some really bad dream and it’s taking longer to come out of it. Life is on hold. Hopefully we’ll appreciate boring and normal when we get it back

Yes but the 5 day period has been scrapped. You have to go there and back to wherever you’re going on Christmas Day itself, which is too impractical to even contemplate.
I'm afraid the BBC is saying that Peterborough is going to be within the Tier 4 area anyway. Thinking of you.

Is there anyone you can see in Manchester on Christmas Day? I know it sucks a lot that you can’t spend your first sober Christmas with your family, but do focus on the positive that you ARE sober, so as much as this Christmas is going to suck you’re still personally in a much better place and that’s something to be thankful for.

Why didn’t Boris address the very blatant accusation of him batting back queries last week (including by Labour) and saying that relaxing rules are inhumane and his backtrack is because of science (duh) not because he was wrong and everyone else was right

he’s like Trump in that he takes no account for things that have happened in the past. He doesn’t care if he says damaging things or contradicts himself or comes across as a fucking hypocrite. All that matters is what he’s saying today and haven’t we all been doing well and it’s my job as PM to protect everyone aren’t i fabulous etc

ARGH

I missed that. What did he say?

A member of the public asked why people in tier 3 who were previously shielding were still expected to go into work etc, and mentioned that as someone who had lost two members of her family, it terrified her.

And then Chris Whitty said he was sorry for the losses that she'd experienced - which you'd expect to be the first thing the politician would do.

That's not entirely true. My understanding is if you get the virus, you aren't immediately infectious, so reducing the Christmas window means that, for example, you get the virus on the 24th, you wouldn't actually be infectious on the 25th. So it will still have some impact.

As everyone said really. And also remember we're doing this this year so that you can enjoy many MANY years ahead to remember your achievement with loved ones (and us).

I hate him more than Theresa May and Margaret Thatcher combined. I hate everything that he stands for.

Honestly the man is an abomination.

I bet you fucking Boris isn’t going to be with just Carrie and the CHILD this Christmas.

I noticed that straight away. Whitty did the political response - and it almost felt like an apology for the fact that Boris didn't.

You don't sound superficial at all @MARY this situation is horrible and you're entitled to your upset.

As funky and Lucille have said, you've got lots of positives to focus on. And all your Moopy friends and sending lots of covid compliant hugs :emoji_kiss_mm::emoji_kiss_ww:

Yeah I am focusing on that. The crap part is that my social circle (if you can call it that) was made up of people who were like me, so obviously I’ve had to cut them all off. I’ve not really had a chance to start making many new friends.

I know I’m just going to have to dig deep. Thank you for your kind words x

Kier Starmer didn’t fully capitalise on calling him out on it IMO but he did say one significant thing - that Boris has a habit of not listening to warnings and dismissing things that are complicated or challenge his decisions. This is bang on. This is repetitive throughout covid and people need to start calling this out. There is a clear and distinct pattern and it’s a huge indictment of his leadership.

Not the same but when I went back to

Liverpool I lost my circle and had to start again - it’s hard. But it does get better. Covid has slowed everything down in terms of our personal progress but it will happen. I’m further along than you in my new phase but I’m still having periods of impatience because I can’t do normal things. But you were right to do what you did and you have to be empowered by that. There’s no going back. Progress is positive.

We should plan an online Christmas party you know. Maybe Boxing Day or something. Something to break up the routine for those who are stuck or alone over Christmas.

A bit like moopy day where we organise loads of things over a few hours and all try to be online.

Scotland news.

@GlennBBC: Here’s what I’m hearing about #coronavirus restrictions in Scotland:

▪️5 day Christmas window to be reduced to just Xmas Day

▪️Level 4 restrictions for much of Scotland from Boxing Day

▪️phased return of schools in New Year

Full details BBC One Scotland from 1720

Thanks Funky. I appreciate that a lot xx

Wales gone into full lockdown. Was meant to be going back on Monday. Now no idea what to do!

Tier 4 for me. I’m so fucking angry. I was happy to have Christmas cancelled but A WEEK BEFORE WITH 24 HOURS TO SORT EVERYTHING OUT?

FUCK THIS SHIT. If it didn’t mean putting people’s lives at risk with this damned virus, I’d be fucking RIOTING. Mr Sheena just had a little cry over not being able to see his parents who he has missed ALL YEAR. My Mum is petrified she’s going to be on her own now at Christmas cause she can’t really go to my brother’s. FUCK THIS SHIT.
