The USA: Trump-Biden Transition - attempted coup + Trump IMPEACHED (AGAIN!)

Hilarious that Twitter wants a cookie for banning Trump now. The horse has bolted, shat all over the road, caused multiple car crashes, shagged your dog and formed an online racist group. Meanwhile Jack Dorsey, allegedly under severe pressure from his own staff goes "welp, better fix that gate". Bollocks.

It's a shame that we'll no longer have his own old tweets to throw at him. Donald Trump's sternest critic was always himself 5-6 years previously.

You know you could count on Macron's puppets to complain about Twitter suspending Trump's account :eyes:

FUCKING HATE THEM.

I thought Macron had sensible supporters? Or is "sensible" an uncool word these days?

Oh that's not just a supporter, I'm talking actual ministers and MPs here...

And I've already said it here, that's only how Macron's party is falsely perceived outside of France. Moderate centrists they're not, they are as right wing as right wing can get.

It’s not like she’s supporting Trump, but speaking against the principle of banning somene because it’s hindering freedom of speech (I guess without having read more than that tweet)? Because it’s the same discussion everytime. Yes, it’s not democratic to silence someone, but how are we going to maintain democracy if we don’t protect it from people like him?

(That’s not a right wing thing though (even if it’s adapted by the right wing when it suits them))

I don't give a fuck for his 'rights to free speech' or anything like that, but part of me does worry that this will just end up reinforcing all the conspiracy theories his acolytes have been swallowing and radicalise them even more.

They'll twist whatever anyway, so might as well do the right thing.

Freedom of Speech, in America at least, refers to freedom from the government controlling your speech. It does not apply to companies, like Facebook or Twitter. Maybe the "free-market" loving Republicans should learn to understand the constitution they love so much

I don’t think his followers are any more radical than the tea party crowd from ten years ago (it’s the same people, no?) The only difference is he emboldened them, offered them a voice, and “permission”. I just worry for 2024 when there will inevitably be a republican that tries to capture their vote by pandering to them.

Reactions: RJN
Exactly as RJN says. Social media companies don't have to explain why they ban/suspend anyone. Their house, their rules, no matter how arbitrary some people may think.

Freedom of speech has ALWAYS been strictly to do with government censorship, especially one descending from a monarchy.

Which is why those social media companies should’ve done something ages ago and not only now.

I actually reckon there's a good chance we'll get Romney running in 2024 as a 'healing' candidate.

Depends how things play out obviously, but I hope that a lot of the ghouls who've propped him up (Cruz, Hawley, Graham etc.) have done their reputations more harm than good.

...although Romney will be quite a bit older than I realised by then! He may be a religious zealot, but he looks great for 73!

Speaking of Romney, has Paul Ryan indefinitely quit politics?

I had Josh Hawley down as a likely Republican nominee until Wednesday :eyes:

Exactly, and besides they suspended his personal account and the POTUS account.

Who’s even going to vote for Romney? The Republican base hates him. Democrats might respect him but they sure as fuck aren’t going to vote for him.

I really am curious to see whether the MAGA/QAnon etc people can actually be metabolised into the mainstream Republican Party, because I'm not convinced that their energy can actually be captured by anyone other than Donald Trump himself.

To be honest it's about time those idiots learned that with freedom of speech come RESPONSIBILITIES.

Even if they wouldn’t they’d still be easily used and mobilized against the Democrats in elections.

I think it’s more that the tea party lot have slowly merged in with the keyboard warriors and the conspiracy theorists and the nazis and the Karens, with, as you say, Trump’s rhetoric providing the glue to pull them all together. He’s created a monster and they’re not afraid to speak out now. Being racist is no longer taboo; it’s become a constitutional right.
