CERTAINLY. But you can't deny that the American show has always been more concerned with POLISH

True. I just don't think being a bit "ropey" is a signifier for a terrible tv show...

But I didn't say it was? I simply expressed my surprise that a show 13 seasons in and so concerned with polish would have a lot of raggedy looking girls on it. But I can imagine there are a lot of reasons for that.

I like a slightly ropey queen. Too much polish (particularly early on) makes me slightly suspicious.

Not ALWAYS, when you look back at the early seasons

But that isn't the trajectory of the show.

I'm not even properly complaining - in a way I wish they didn't force the girls into spending so much money on expensive outfits beforehand and then ragging on the girls who can't afford it.

And my comment wasn't aimed at you, it was aimed at the MISERABLE OLD NAYSAYER who posted before me, who has moaned about everything this series and who was going on about some Covid based CONSPIRACY THEORY in the post after yours...

LOLLY is the only one making sense this evening and, let's face it, HE'S PRACTICALLY SENILE!

Well let's just say that I like the S13 cast
I'm glad Elliott got saved, that would've been a dogshit twist. I'm willing to wait and see what they'll do with the others. And nobody leaving from today's group was good, since they earned their places there last week.
Splitting them up IS a good idea, I feel like I know the queens a lot better from an earlier point than other seasons, which I guess was ONE of the objectives of doing all this. A bit like S6 but without people being eliminated before meeting the group.

Runway challenge was good, the song thing, meh, the main runway was a nice theme too, and only having 6 meant not having any obvious repeats.

The main issue I had with the episode that I feel like they get along pretty well - that in itself I quite LIKE. But the show needed some drama, so what drama there was was way too forced. The Elliott stuff sounded like she was just trying and failing to kiki, but they sort of decided that was awful (even though Tina was going on about "the winners").

What was going on with Gottmik? "OMG I didn't think I'd have to discuss my identity now", literally the first lyric is "I was born a girl", and they were in the dance rehearsal for that song! Was that such a blindsiding moment?!

I forgot to Ru-ank:
1) Symone - fabulously watchable and beautiful. Wasn't sure about her daytime runway but everything else was great. OMG I also hadn't seen the S13 promo shot until this week, incredible. That HAIR!

2) Olivia - That smile, she seems like such a sweetheart. I was expecting her inexperience to make her a bit busted but so far so good. The standout in the song for sure.

3) Elliott - Hate the name but she seems like a good egg. I really like her makeup too, and her looks are solid. For some reason I really liked her red daytime look with the blonde hair. Pulling out that drop split in the song was :disco:

4) Gottmik - I want to like her more, but she hasn't done anything that particularly grabbed me yet. I can see today's was expensive but I don't know, I didn't feel anything and I'm not sure why. At least if she's the kooky one, she's a hell of a lot more likable than Aiden.

5) Lala Ri - I'm still not into her, I think she lost the lipsync last week, and her outfits have been pretty blah so far. She's talking but it's just blablabla so far. That said, her makeup on the main stage was so beautiful.

6) Tina Burner - I don't really get the name (apart from it sounds like Tina Turner), and she just seems like a bit of a cunt so far. She's getting all that talking head time with that aggressive squint she's always doing. I liked the entrance look but all these fire tones are getting tired.

7) Kandy Muse - The most tiresome type of queen for me, the talkative mess, full of excuses about why she should be here. She was the only one who fucked up the challenge and I had no idea what she was rapping, and that main stage runway was booger. Seems nice enough but I'm already tired that I'm probably going to be seeing her until at least the midpoint. She's not even THAT crazy, the judges talk like she's so unpredictable. Based on what?

@Diddy Tina Burner is both a Tina Turner pun and also a reference to crystal meth, which is huge on the gay scene (where it’s known as Tina) and a common way of taking it is heating with a flame and smoking it through a glass pipe.

oh! Well the more you know :disco:

i was going to say I wonder why they made Crystal from DRUK shorten her name but I guess that’s probably the BBC’s call?

Yes, although I do think drag queens should think a bit more about choosing names with a connection to such a nasty, destructive, evil drug. I’ve seen it destroy so many lives. I know of people who have taken their own life because of it. I know people who suffer severe psychotic episodes because of their crystal meth use. It almost destroyed and took my life. It should not be glamourised in any shape or form.

I actually like the 'twist' of splitting them into groups and not sending anyone home yet. It's going to give us more time to get to know the queens, and splitting them up and focusing on six/seven per episode, means it's easier to differentiate each queen from the next.

Drag Race history is littered with queens that I would have loved to have seen for more than one episode.

Yeah, I'm not necessarily a fan in terms of how they split them, but I have no issue with the two groups.

I loved how I read your post first and I was like OH FOR FUCK'S SAKE, HERE GOES JOEY BANGING ON ABOUT DRUGS, EVERYONE GETS THE NAME.

Then I read Diddy's post and realised I had done you a TOTAL disservice :D

But is it glamourising it? I'm not necessarily sure that's true. Drag queens (or at least many of them) are known for near the knuckle humour. Where does it stop?

I'm not saying you're WRONG, I just don't know at what point a "pun" becomes glamourising.

Yes, seemingly in 2003 by the looks of THAT photo
