This ban on support bubbles is such bullshit. Literally just doing the most pointless, punitive thing just to look like they're doing SOMETHING.

I know loads of people who are still being pressured to go to their offices for work because - shocker - the gentle suggestion that we should all be working from home 'if possible' isn't being enforced in any meaningful way. Meanwhile people are being fined for walking the streets in pairs because of course this is all our fault! :manson:
 
Supposedly. :( It's in the media this morning, so doubtless they're briefing Peston and co in advance of an announcement later.
 
Whitty has said that following the existing rules is more important than tightening them.
 
I wonder if the government realises that making masks mandatory everywhere is the same as banning exercise whilst it's raining, because masks don't work properly if they're wet.
 
Just saw a rumour on Twitter that they're also considering changing daily exercise to WEEKLY?! What is this fucking BULLSHIT?
 
I can say now that I will without hesitation break the bubble rule if it is brought in up here. I do not need to get public transport or anything like that, so it isn't any more risk than if we lived together.
 
My mum has been to collect my brother just in case, but surely they can't ban them where one person has additional needs.

I mean I shouldn't get involved in responding to Twitter rumours, but if that's the case then I'm breaking that rule and I don't give a shit.
 
I was going to say, they'll tell us to exercise at home won't they? Of course ignoring the fact that some of us don't have the fucking space, while they sit in their Tory mansions.

Just thinking about my mum who lives in a block of 16 flats. I know a lots of the residents there have been mixing as they’re quite a friendly bunch. Impossible to police as they’re not even stepping outside of their own building.

Yeah - remember when they told us we could sit in the garden, ignoring the fact that most of us don't have a fucking garden? Half of these fuckers could get their daily exercise walking from one wing of the house to another...
 
I literally can't exercise at home. No space/ inappropriate floors. My daily walks are my lifeline.

That said, that shit can't be monitored.

Also, why do anything more now? Lockdown takes 3 weeks to show results. Have they learnt nothing?
 
I bet they'd like us to go the way of the French where you had to have a permit to be out, but HOPEFULLY they're too focused on coordinating vaccinations right now to be arsed with that as well.
 
I don’t even have a balcony but do have some stairs.

Still need to leave though because a work friend round who lives round the corner is alone, vulnerable and self isolating. I need to drop a few things off on her doorstep.
 
My block has five courtyards, with beds of shrubs and flowers but no grass, between 400-odd flats. I wonder if that counts as having a garden :DAF:

Well, we have a shared garden but there are 87 flats in this block, most of which have two bedrooms - if we all tried to use it at once, the fuzz would be over in a flash. It's theory vs practice.

The same report says 80% of people have access to a private garden, if you want to knock shared spaces out.

(P.s. I'm not trying to argue that it's still not an awful thing for far too many people. I was just interested in the stats)

They won't be able to for proper carers. My Mum couldn't cope alone all the time at all. I can't remember what the situation was in the first lockdown as my Dad was still around so we didn't have it then...

I 100% agree that this is the biggest loophole than needs closing pronto.

I used to work for a carers charity and it has been the policy since the start of the pandemic that you are allowed to visit someone else for the purposes of providing care. It predates the separate idea of support bubbles, which were focused on social and practical support for people who live alone but don’t have any additional needs.
