The USA: Trump-Biden Transition - attempted coup + Trump IMPEACHED (AGAIN!) (1 Viewer)

Apologies if it's been mentioned, but I'm still absolutely disgusted that Lisa Montgomery was executed.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-55642177

What she did was obviously horrific, but by ALL ACCOUNTS she was severely mentally unwell, and abused throughout her life.
I cannot believe anybody with a conscience* would send such a sick person to be executed, never mind when they could have just NOT DONE IT and left it for the Biden administration to sort out.

*well of course I can, it's a Trump administration.
Absolutely - what she did was truly terrible, but by all accounts she had spent years of her life COMPLETELY detached from reality and should've been sent to a high security psychiatric hospital for treatment. Instead they executed her... it's actually quite sick.

Before I went to bed last night the ruling seemed to be that she had had a stay of execution granted due to mental health grounds, and then when I woke up this morning that had somehow been denied and she had been executed. So fucked up.

I'd still rather have Montgomery ROAMING OUR STREETS instead of the morons at the Capitol attack.

To put an all too simple spin on it: the death penalty is horrific and humans are (should be) better than that in 2021.

This 1000 times

Sometimes I get so caught up in hating America for electing Trump, it almost distracts from the real reasons to hate America

I seriously hope he falls down the stairs and is paralysed at some point in the next week.

In ONE WEEK he'll be gone!

It's not too simple. It's just fact. It actually is one of the few things that makes me happy to be in the UK - most of us have moved on from this debate decades ago and realise that it is utterly barbaric and simply wrong.

It doesn't even matter to me whether or not she was clinically sane. The death penalty is just not the one.

Not all of us, sadly...

Yeah, I reckon the death penalty will be brought back into serious debate in the U.K. within the next five years.

There were rumours quite recently that HERR PRITI had briefed for it to be debated again, weren't there?

I don't honestly think there's much serious appetite for it in the Tory party beyond that utter psychopath, but I shudder at the thought of it going to a referendum.

You'd be surprised :zombie:

when it comes to extreme cases, such as acts murder undertaken as part of terrorism, nearly six in ten Britons (58%) back the death penalty for such a crime with a third (32%) opposed.

I don't see a long tactical campaign to reintroduce the death penalty, only as something opportunistic.

If there was a horrific murder of a child in the lead up to an election, the Tory's would whack it straight in their manifesto and use it as ammo to beat Labour with, and probably get a ludicrous majority out of it too.

They just played the video on CNN. I really do think social media has done him an accidental favour by banning him. It's allowing him (and no doubt his team) to actually control his public image, when we all know if he was still tweeting he'd have dug himself twice as big of a hole by now.

Apparently, she was getting the Home Office to prepare a white paper setting out the viability of bringing it back or something. :zombie:
