A Janet double: janet./The Velvet Rope - 2NITE @ 7.30

"You" reminds me a lot of MJ, particularly that chorus.
it's very HIStory to be honest. I really appreciate this track and her experimental delivery but I'm also glad it's a one-off here.

09.5 Velvet Rope
08.5 You

They actually were playing the same tactic in the USA as Mariah at this time and only "releasing" the obvious hits to maintain the string of top tens (GTIG, Every Time, Go Deep were airplay only - disqualified from the Hot 100 back then).

It was more to sell albums than maintaining the top ten strings. No way Got Til It’s Gone wouldn’t have been an obvious top ten...

You has a bit of a nod towards Scream, her delivery reminds me of that. She’s got something to say and you will listen

"Got Till It's Gone" is really the only example of the mumble singing that WORKS.

what's the next song?
the one about me.

Got Til It's Gone is the sleekest, coolest and vibiest single ever from our janft. beautiful, artful sample (Joni Mitchell never lies!). what did Joni think of it?

I was never a huge fan of GTIG, shall see how it is now, haven’t heard it in years. Not a classic for me

She loved it. I remember both Joni & Janet separately saying that she'd given it her blessing and loved the song.

This doesn’t feel dated at all. I was 11 when this came out. Crazy.

She loved it. It was one of those Madonna-esque personal request things. She no doubt also earned a shitload of money :D

why is she calling her friend, on speakerphone, for a casual chat, while masturbating? :D

I still remember hearing the 'I Get Lonely' teaser in the Speakerphone masturbatory interlude first time I played the CD and thinking "OMG I can't believe they're wasting that on a interlude'. Fortunately I was wrong..

there are loads of sprinkles of acid jazz, acid piano, psychedelica across this album, often buried quite deep in the mix - it's such a hot sophisticated genre-hopping PLEASURE!

10.5 Got Til It's Gone
09 My Need

I need to get ready for bed. But I don’t want to leave before What About :disco:
