Along with the rest of the gay Internet, I've only recently started diving into Sylvester. Is it worth going any further than the obvious hits?

Hmmm....
Sister Sledge - Lost In Music
Odyssey - Going Back To My Roots
Rose Royce - Is It Love You’re After
Crusaders - Street Life
Chic - I Want Your Love
special mention to
Earth Wind & Fire - September
Sylvester - Do You Wanna Funk (the best Funk/Disco crossover ever)
Diana Ross - Love Hangover (Upside Down even better but not really proper disco)
George McCrae - Rock Your Baby (such early disco I don’t really count it as disco but it’s also 11/10)
Rufus - Ain’t Nobody (also not really disco but usually recognised as such so needs to be mentioned as one of the greatest songs ever)

Completely agree. I do enjoy Communards version too but Thelma’s is orgasmic.
I think there's a certain disco "spirit" that spills over into many songs of the mid 70s-mid 80s which are technically electro-pop, soulful pop, funk or adjacent genres. Ain't Nobody certainly isn't disco but it's a product of that era and I wouldn't be RAGING if somebody included it on a classic disco playlist. but then I'm again I'm no genre purist.
you just clarified my exact pointIt isn’t that era at all! It was 1983- 3 years after disco “died”.
I'm not a purist, you are. it's not that because disco died traces of it couldn't be found in other genres.you just clarified my exact pointI'm not a purist, you are. it's not that because disco died traces of it couldn't be found in other genres.

! You can really hear where MJ got his vocal licks from at 5:08 and 5:28.
