The Covid-19 Zoe app shows that estimated active cases in Redbridge (where we are) have gone from 9,300 on 11 January to 704 today.

That's a phenomenal drop if it's accurate. A mixture of lockdown and the vaccine, I'm sure.
 
The combination of that news form Israel, lowered cases in both Europe and the US, the improving weather, and the continued vaccine rollout is making me feel more optimistic about this than I have in a while. We might be able to avoid a 3rd(4th?) wave!
 
Ive only visited prisons but let me reassure you that covid is a doddle in comparison.
 
York ONCE AGAIN has gone to the lowest region for new cases for about 200 miles in any direction, from being one of the worst only a month ago (and that was thanks to Tiering)

There's almost certainly a societal impact there in terms of workplaces and such, but equally i've not heard that many cases of rulebreaking or seen barely anyone not wearing a mask.
 
I've not looked at the rates in London for a while but it's insane how quickly they've gone gone down.

Boris Johnson has pledged that every adult in the UK should be offered a COVID-19 vaccine by the end of July.

The accelerated vaccine rollout would help protect the most vulnerable sooner and also enable the easing of some lockdown restrictions, the prime minister said.

People aged 50 and over and those with underlying health conditions will be offered a jab by 15 April.

And by 31 July, all adults should have been offered a COVID-19 vaccine, though the order of priority for those aged under 50 has yet to be outlined by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI).

I have a question here - I'm still technically registered with my old GP but I have not visited in well over 10 years. The last time I tried to make an appointment about 2 years ago they couldn't even find me on their initial register because I'd dropped off their records, saying I could make an appointment but it would take 6 weeks (which as usual, suspected chest infection cleared up within 3 anyway).

I'm registered there under my family home because for so long I used to move around London in rented accommodation every year or so and it seemed so pointless registering somewhere new for nothing when I could just pop home at any time. It's generally not unusual to not be particularly sick throughout your 20s and 30s and of course I know I've been quite irresponsible by not going up for the regular women's checks etc. but I've always had pretty poor experiences from GPs in general past childhood.

Is it possible anyone in this situation could just not be invited for a vaccine and get overlooked? From my work I know there's certainly a large population of people born outside of the UK who have been living here for years and never registered anywhere. Obviously I had Covid though so the NHS clearly have me on some kind of contact list, but I was under no obligation to log it with the GP.

I would have thought it’s entirely possible to get overlooked so I would make sure you’re on someone’s list! I have recently nagged my other half into registering with a new GP as he was still with his old one miles away and had never bothered changing.
 
I assume i'm on someone's list but I'm not that bothered if i get vaccinated or not (unless they start bringing in PASSPORTS AND SUCH)

I've seen local centres whereby you can fill a form online and request an appointment if you're within the categories being vaccinated, however they do all ask for GP details. I would register with a GP close to you ASAP, there's an NHS website which helps you find your local gp.

That's on my mind too, I'm 'waiting on a call' to book my second dose, but my parents both had their second date booked in when they had their first. So hopefully it won't be a complete mess up

Yeah, I know which one I want to register with, but they all require you to go there in person, and none of them are allowing that at the moment unless it’s absolutely necessary!

Like I said I’m just angry that my existing surgery dropped me like I died or something without any notification. My experience them was always that they only ever prioritised old people anyway as my Dad would be able to ring up on the day and get an appointment and I’d have to wait at least a month, having to cancel when whatever I had cleared up by that point, so I just gave up trying to go. The surgery barely gave me the time of day when I got hospitalised in 2005.

I'm finding GP surgeries really inflexible at the moment. People keep telling me it's impossible to get anything checked out except via a phonecall. Plus they're sending loads of people to us to deal with things because they won't do any face to face!

It's ridiculous that you cannot register right now, healthcare is supposed to be open to all. I'd be tempted to email the practice manager saying that.
 
I have to deal with GP surgeries for vocational medical checks at work on a daily basis and I just loathe most of them anyway. They’ll charge anywhere from £80 up to £200 to fill in a form for someone and then won’t complete it properly, just randomly decide to skip mandatory sections and not even read what information they’re suppose to disclose, so their patient gets charged again to get it done a second time.
 
I had to get a letter from my surgery to say I’m my Mum’s carer so I could be added to the residents’ parking at her place. £150 they wanted for it. FUCK THAT!

Luckily, my Mum has someone ON THE INSIDE who just printed out a copy of her medical records where it says the same thing, but seriously, in what world is that ok?

Does she have to pay a fee too for parking at her own home? Most people get a visitors pass. Ugh, i have such a problem with extortionate parking fees on private property. It’s just a licence for organisations to charge something for nothing.

Residents’ parking charge of about £30 a year. I have to do the same, albeit you can never move the car here in summer anyway because they also have meters on the same road.

My point is more that I'm not nervously waiting by the letterbox for my turn - It'll happen when it happens and I will wait until it's my go. That's the opposite of selfish!

Yes the amount charged really doesn't reflect the amount of time taken. Sadly that's just greedy bosses.

The websites may say that you need to go in person, because they’re not up to date, but you’ll probably find that you actually just need to fill in the forms online and send them scanned ID. That’s what Mr Kate had to do anyway.
 
It is going to be very difficult watching England get more freedom than Scotland again, despite knowing academically that Scotland's approach is probably better.
