Konnichiwa, annyeonghaseyo, ni hao and hello to you wonderful users of Moopy.

Are you feeling brave enough to dare to delve yourselves in the archives of hidden wonders(?), mysteries(?) and oddities(!) of the music scenes of Japan, South Korea & China from once upon a time long ago?

I'd like to think of this playlist as a love letter to some of my favourite gems of Asian music, with a display of affection to the different the different types of styles, genres and ideas these songs evoke.

I am aiming to fit this into 1 hour 45 minutes - 2 hours so hopefully will be able to share a good amount of my knowledge (I shine more when it comes to Japanese music of this era, my South Korean and Chinese music is lacking so please excuse me some #17 SMASH HIT IN THE MANDOCHARTS OF 1986 is missing :D) and draw some interest in discovering the artists featured.

There will be familiar Moopy icons, as well as some new faces that names will have never been on a Moopy search page (until now!). As I am covering a good 25 years, expect wailing divas, experimental pop, cheery but captivating anime themes, 'hip-with-the-kids 90's' bands and...a Japanese take on Irene Cara? :manson:

Bonus Editorial: Cutting Room Floor
Here are some of the songs I planned to feature and very much nearly were going to be included but just missed out (in order to avoid going over the 2 hour plan).

#1 Uhm Jung Hwa - Poison (1998 South Korea)


Reason for being cut: Ultimately decided to go with a different song of hers for the playlist.

#2 Utadu Hikaru - Colors (2003 Japan)


Reason for being cut: Ultimately decided to go with a different song of hers for the playlist.

#3 Chuli & Miae - Nuneh wheh (Why do you) (1992 South Korea)


Reason for being cut: As iconic as I find this performance, I couldn't quite find the right spot in the playlist to fit it in.

#4: Meiko Nakahara - Fantasy (1982 Japan)


Reason for being cut: Tough one, but had a quota planned for representing each decade. The one for 80s was met and there ultimately were just songs I thought would be more interesting to incude.

#5: Mariz - Iyong-iyo (I'm yours) (1990 Philippines)


Reason for being cut: My knowledge of Pinoy hits is very limited, and instead of a large coverage of Asia, for now thought best to cover Japanese, South Korean & Chinese music scenes instead.

Ok need to remember!! 9.30 for me so it’s perfect! TAG ME, I even missed my OWN start time last time :D

Scheduled Timetable. each section will last around 20-25 minutes, with some ad breaks in between:
Section 1: China (Taiwan & Singapore as well)
Section 2: Japan (I)
Section 3: South Korea
Section 4: Japan (II)
Section 5: Fusion (mix of all of the above)
 
Excited! @Haiku is this is a YouTube playlist? If it is, can you post it a little bit early so I can put it up on my TV? i only need five minutes at most though!

didn't have enough time to make a proper opening clip, sorry all. :( Also about 11ish of those videos are ads, a memo for next time to do more editing. :D

Song 1: Elva Hsiao - Theme Song of Love (2002 Taiwan)
Elva Tsiao is considered some what a pioneer of contemporary Chinese music, in fusing the China sound popular around the time with Dance and RnB influence. Theme Song of Love was one of the best selling songs of the 2000's.

She also used to date Jackie Chan's son Jaycee before he went to jail so there's that interesting tidbit. :D
 
God I LOVE this sort of Ministry of Sound Summer Annual beachy summer hit vibe, you've got my number Haiku!

A few of her songs do take influence from whatever trend was in the Western world. Some of her late 90s stuff sounds like it could've been done by JLo or other female RnB singer of that time. :D

I LOVE this too. Weird that it feels nostalgic despite being from a time and place I've never experienced :D
Not really far away from Japanese love songs of the same period too (and the hair)
