Song 8: MAX - Tora Tora Tora (1996 Japan)
There was some unusual trend in the 90s where quite a few artists starting their careers in Japan debuted with covers of Italo-disco or Eurobeat songs. :D

One of Japan's leading bands of the 90's, Max fall under this category with Tora Tora Tora was one of their earliest tracks. While the song stalled in the Top 15 (Still good for a debuting band though), it put their foot in the door and paved way for later success including top 5 hits.
 
Tora Tora Tora is actually similar to some of the famous (?) tracks from the Touhou Project games :o
 
I think someone did Karaoke to this with me, I've seen this video :o - he's done some really strange songs I've found. That "I wanna be a popstar" one sounds like it came off Now That's What I Call Moldovan Music
 
Song 8: Ken Hirai - Hitomi o Tojite (2004 Japan)
One of the biggest selling love ballads ever in Japan, I do have a soft spot for this drippy ballad and Ken's soothing voice.

I remember Pop Star. :D and that really odd sensual one he had with Namie Amuro :D

How do you feel about BackNumber (and their one template for all their songs :D), this is a bit reminiscent of that. Or Mr Children ballads
 
Someone said my voice sounded like Ken's after karaoke :D I wasn't sure what to make of that, I can't hear it myself

I don't know enough about BackNumber actually. :o Gotta look them up some time after this. :D I do know Mr Children's songs though, and yes, I'm a sucker for those too. :D
 
Sorry this is turning into an MSN chat now - but do you know that Mr Children song with the video where people are watching a meteor shower, including an old man who seems to have dementia, but he sees the shooting star and looks at his wife lovingly for the first time in ages and i cry a lot?

That rings a bell, I'm just not drawing a name right now. I'll get back to you if I recall/find it. But yes, that video is so emotional. :(

Their GH is a bit heavy-going and a lot of the songs blend into one, but there are some nice ones..

Did his girlfriend just blast into space??
 
Song 10: Junko Yagami - Bay City (1983 Japan)
That last minute key change :disco: One of my favourite City Pop songs and what got me interested in the genre. Thank you Junko Yagami!
 
This is a lovely detour from my usual choices - probably I've never put anything in my lists pre-2004 except the 2 Enka songs I know

I always forget that the Moomins cartoon I watched as a child was, in fact... ANIME :shock:
