I love Blur but "Bang" was a real wet fart. There really is nothing here that suggests they have a career in them.
 
Having 2 or more drummers is pretty much always an easy to way to my heart. Yet, Midge Ure has three here and this is utter shite.
 
First sighting of The Prodigy! "Charly" sounds rotten now but it was a means to an end - gave them some money and a profile.
 
The performances were actually pretty decent, it was just everything else...

The new presenters definitely don't feel like an upgrade, the inane little pre-performance interviews that nobody cares about and just racing through the top ten rundown right at the beginning of the programme.

I'm 9 episodes to the bad. Such was 1991. I'm just watching Tin Machine and dying of an overdose of smug.
 
1991 is a veritable 'Pointless' episode of forgotten hits by relatively popular artists.
 
Chap from Utah Saints wearing a t-shirt saying "In The Charts, In Your Face". CLASSY.
 
This is what I mean, give even a relatively knowledgable person 60 seconds to name as many Kylie hits as they can and they're not going to reach "Word Is Out".
 
Crystal Waters' follow up single and now a completely unmemorable Cliff, despite the gold shirt. I don't remember '91 as a particularly duff year but some of these episodes are dreadful.
 
Dannii, Ce Ce Peniston and Enya in one episode was QUITE THE TREAT.

We must be due the infamous Nirvana performance soon.

It's quite funny that the first performance on the "all new" live vocals Top Of The Pops was Erasure with Vince Clarke happily pretending to play the whole song on a Vox Continental organ!
 
I had also forgotten that they made bands plug in the guitars to make it look more 'live'. Grim.
 
This Stevie Wonder video shows how misconceived the relaunch was from the get go. Crap song, not a hit but "oooh, Stevie Wonder, everyone will want to see that!". No.
 
Quite odd watching Julian Lennon singing his environmentalist song 30 years ago with COP26 on the go. I'm not suggesting that "we should all have listened to Julian Lennon" because he was reflecting something that was going on at the time but...oh, you know.

U2 were still having #1 singles and albums. I can take that, what's selling is what's selling. But they had Status Quo at #10 on the album chart and didn't even tell us what was in the rest of the albums top 10!
 
This Morrissey song is a right cold cuppa. Imagine going from The Smiths to this in just a few years and thinking you'd scored.
