Bad episode for deceased drummers, Paul Hester of Crowded House and Martin Gilks of The Wonder Stuff both being no longer with us.

I actually remember this episode because it was my 10th birthday. I seriously hated Guns N Roses just because their crap live performances were always shown until I actually heard their records a bit later.
 
Oh, they start reading out the charts again now...

..also, I'd forgotten that Seal had issued the live version of Killer. That would be a useless gesture these days.
 
Claudia Simon appears to be Jackie Brambles without any personality.

Altern 8 putting "top one, nice one, get sorted" on TOTP. Quality.
 
Imagine going straight in at #8 and being in the Breakers because Michael Jackson's new video lasts about a fortnight. Poor Bassheads.
 
There was a lot of rave hits in late '91. I guess they were selling 12"s by the bucket.

...and a few weeks after the JAMs had their "THE NORTH WILL RISE AGAIN" banner, a group of whom I have no memory at all have "THE NORTH HAS RISEN". And then collapsed like a wonky soufflé, by the sounds of it.
 
I must have missed this episode at the time - I do not remember Sonia crushing the life out of "You To Me Are Everything" at all. Grim.
 
A passable debut from Heather Small.

Diana Ross being quite iconic.

That Sonia cover was pointless.
 
The Tammy Wynette and KLF performance is everything.

If only they'd slipped in at no.1 a couple more times (like they rightly deserved).

Having been lucky enough to follow it from it's lo-fi "hip hop" roots in '87, it was a surreal delight to see them absolutely conquer the charts in '91. Proper legends.
 
:moira: Christmas 1998 is on tonight at 7! Absolutely wall to wall with classics as far as I can remember (unlike Christmas 1978 much to my mum’s dismay when it was on last night).
 
I loved the 1978 special, Noel Edmonds interludes aside.

It did create something of a storm at home though, given that Mr L refuses to believe that I love Brotherhood Of Man's 'Figaro' entirely unironically, and crucially, more than 'Take A Chance On Me'.

It really was the end of the imperial Spice Girls era. They've lost a lot of sparkle by this stage.
 
So 1992 has started and it's not terrible, although it is notoriously one of the most lacklustre years in music (imho). Sugarcubes' Hit has been a highlight.
 
Hit was a treat. Nice to see a live performance of Kylie doing Give Me a Little More Time, even though it looked a bit confused stylistically. And then straight into Public Enemy...
