That’s actually a very good point. Fortunately, my other favourite, Stolichnaya, is Latvian.
 
Germany has (finally) removed a block on weapons from third countries passing through it so equipment destined for Ukraine, which was intended to be there a couple of weeks ago, can now arrive.

Do we know if they have lifted their block on sending weapons and ammunition that have been constructed in their factories?
Cause I was just reading this.

Not sure, this appears to be weaponry from third countries (so I know weapons from the UK and Netherlands are now passing through). I haven’t seen anything on domestic production. It’s a good question.

The federal government has spoken out in favor of a "targeted and functional" restriction of the international payment system Swift . Work is being done "at high pressure" on how Russia's decoupling from Swift can be limited in such a way that "it hits the right people," said Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck (both Greens).

No, I don't really feel this is the socialdemocrats' history or remnants of that wankstain Schroeder.

I think it's politicians who haven't been in this job long being scared to make "tough" decisions (Baerbock being the exception so far from what I can tell).

And of course you have vile Lindner in the mix who is always going to pretend to have the German finances at the heart of his decision making.

So in short ‘please don’t stop us being able to pay for gas’ - the one thing that will cripple Putin’s finances.
 
There's around €30 billion in loans to Russian banks/companies, and a big chunk of those come from German banks and will probably be lost/written off with Russia being banned from SWIFT.

Hence the dilly-dallying. Of course one could SAY that if you take the risk to lend to a murderous regime, you have to also suffer the consequences when that risk goes south. But we all know the big players never accept risk, that's just part of the bullshit they feed normal people like @RaspberrySwirl :beer:

I don't understand why the Eu countries don't just propose to restart the electricity plants we were asked to close in order to reduce our emissions so that we can all back up for Germany's heavy reliance on Russian gas for as long as this lasts if that's Germany's problem.

In Finland, the iniative to organize a public vote to join the NATO collects the required amount of 50 thousand signatures and will be passed to the parliament. Apparently also over 50% of Swedes are in favor of joining — according to polls.
 
I wonder if RuPaul will incorporate this into the next series of Drag Race.

They've officially lifted both of those bans. Scholz said it's an act of duty.

I had an absolutely LUNAR exchange with my bf's mother earlier via Facebook Messenger

Firstly, she can no longer receive photos or screenshots on the platform - presumably to prevent Russians receiving any actual NEWS.

Then she told me that on Russian TV, they are showing Russian soldiers being welcomed in Ukraine, and lying down Ukrainian soldiers in surrender.

To which I told her that Russia is bombing residential buildings and even kindergartens - she was shocked, and said "this can't be!!!"

Incredible.

Loufoque does the public have the impression that their troops are only in Donetsk? Also if not what is the explanation they were given for being in Kyiv? How do they justify this to the people?
