I don't suppose the BBC ever thought it likely they would all be repeated decades later, but I can't believe the BBC left people with the power to prevent repeats.

And am even more pissed off they couldn't do some kind of cobbled together TOTP2 type show with the performances from all the weekly shows we've lost.

I wonder what would happen if one of these former no-mark presenters happen to have died or something. Mike Smith for example technically has an “estate”, but this guy may be the least memorable part of TOTP history.

That comes across as a bit morbid and threatening, but just wondering. Had this twat no longer been around, it’s not like a specific point would be made to inform the BBC still not to air those episodes.

What about later in the 90s when all those random guest presenters were made up of various pop stars, actors and sports people? Do they get the same say as the old DJs?

I'd rather have 10 minutes on Wet Wet Wet now with Pellow on one side and the musicians on the other all hating each other while Kevin Simm looks on feeling just a bit awkward.
 
Just saw a tweet which said his last show was late August 92. How far are we from that now?
 
That was his only tweet in four years. Why waste it on Radio 1 nostalgia, mention TOTP on his website and then decline to have his episodes shown.
 
It is a shame they can't do more compilation shows of performances they've had to skip.

Siobhan looking quite fabulous in her interview from the 1992 story, and managing to sound like she doesn't hate Stay too much.
 
How uncomfortable is Gary Barlow in this Take That appearance. Not a natural dancer, is he? If he hadn't turned into a tax dodging Tory twat, I'd feel sorry for him.
 
Oh, the new entries now have titles and are on screen for more than a second each. That must have been an audience feedback thing.

The episode on the Saturday Claudia Simon mentions featured The Wedding Present doing "California" and Manic Street Preachers doing "Motorcycle Emptiness" so fuck you Adrian/Woolfe/Rose/Lucifer-Arse-Boil or whatever your fucking name is.

Bob Geldof being a tit, of course. I wonder if all the celebrity presenters are considered guests, same as the actual performers and that we won't lose episodes...?
 
The Orb's 3D chess appearance. The full length of "The Blue Room" is still the absolute tits. A lot of artist were having fun with singles at the time - this being 39m 58s, the maximun allowable, the Abba-esque EP, the Wedding Present's monthly singles...good times.
 
Def Leppard were so anachronistic in '92. They were bewildering enough in 1987 but they really did feel like someone had opened a cursed time capsule by this time.
 
Worth remembering Erasure were on an indie label, Mute. A major would not have let them do this and it was a massive success.

And I was horrified to discover only a few days ago that they are back soon with a new album
 
I like Arrested Development but opening with the record that is #9 in America is perverse.
 
I always forget how many hits Altern-8 actually had. In my mind they had maybe 2 but we're up to 4 or 5 now.
 
This Electronic record was always good for music clips based quizzes. Every time, more than half the answers would say "Pet Shop Boys". S'alright but it's no "Getting Away With It".
 
Interesting - Carter USM "taken ill" during rehearsals so they're a breaker and "Rhythm Is A Dancer" gets a full spin. A "sliding doors" moment for "RIAD" in the UK?
 
Oh, this Jimmy Nail record is a comedy classic. We were giving it "she's lying" around the house for weeks.

I thought that, but it was a pretty high new entry and eventually proven to be an unstoppable megahit.

Yeah, it was much higher in the charts so you can see why Carter would only get the nod over Snap if they were going to be there in the studio.
 
I'd forgotten that Erasure's "Voulez-Vous" was quite so tits-out. Quite the banger.
 
God that Jon Secada performance is annoying.

Lot's of solid classics in this episode.
