Neighbours DEAD (again) (1 Viewer)

Didn't Neighbours go through a period where it was LARGELY just school kids with just a few older characters to prop them up? It really would have been the least appealing time for me to watch.

WHY WOULD THEY HAVE MORE THAN ONE BRENNAN FAMILY?

No bloody clue. The first new Brennan was introduced during the really shit early-2010s era when they had truly terrible writers. But they've also had plenty of time to fix that with an "Auntie Beth" reference, so fuck knows.

Maybe there'll be a finale twist

Yep. I stopped watching for a couple of years. There were whole weeks solely devoted to school discos and school radio stations.

They did a hatchet job on the few older characters they had kept on - Libby went all-out bitch, Lyn became an arsonist, and Steph got locked up for years for killing Margot Robbie's husband.

I totally forgot understated Lyn married Paul and became a psychobitch.

I'm still holding out for the announcement that Dorothy Burke is going to put in an appearance!

Oh, and couldn't they do something to bring Julie Martin back from the grave, to get all of the Robinson kids back together one last time?

Fmforums feverishly awaiting for the one return that counts.

Terese was married to Brad I see and they had kids. But Brad seemingly had kids coming out of the woodwork, like Paul.

Sophie from Home and Away is now in Neighbours. Mind blowing stuff for a rainy Sunday.

As I said, once I realised it was her it blew my mind.

Mind you, I was also convinced that the character of Melanie was originally in Home And Away and been moved across, so what do I know?

I haven’t watched in many many years but after all the talk on here decided to put it on starting from last Wednesdays episode and I recognised her instantly.

It is almost like putting on an old pair of shoes although I can never remember it being quite so NAFF.

I don’t know if the Neighbours “webispodes” are considered CANON but this could be one way of bringing back Julie Martin (un)DEAD.

Mr Ag had NEVER watched it. He found it appalling. I think he quite enjoyed the drama between Susan and HER FROM ROGUE TRADERS as he knows her, but that was it.

I had no idea Jane married Des a couple of years ago. :o What happened to them?

Also nice that she enlisted her best mate as the wedding singer :D :

Mind bending in-universe madness.

Terese (AKA Sophie) has been in Neighbours far longer than she was in H&A I see.

I mean he's not wrong. The ending has ramped the ludicrous up, but it wasn't so far off when I started watching, which was a few months before the ending was known.

But it really is compulsively shit. Mr L frequently gets exasperated at me laughing while I'm watching it - particularly if it's a 'dramatic' scene featuring the aforementioned Glen or (even more so) David.

Does anyone here watch both Neighbours and Home And Away? I think @Rachey only watches H&A.

I do need to find SOMETHING to fill the hole...

Susan vs Izzy was some of the best tv I remember in recent years. Izzy was such a fantastic bitch but even then she couldn’t lace Susan’s boots in a CATFIGHT. :disco:

Not the first time they've acknowledged Kylie I see:

What was the viewership like on the Beeb in the early Noughties before it moved over to Channel 5? I must have dipped in enough to be aware of the Karl/Susan/Izzy thing but the last time I properly watched the show was in the 90s.

I think it was fine. C5 just offered stupid money to keep it afloat (which it needed) and it meant they could air it alongside Home & Away as more of a flagship programme than the BBC ever did.

One of the only real downsides for UK fans was the as breaks which the show had built in anyway!

From memory I think it was getting 5-6 million viewers a day. The same programme was shown in the afternoon too, right?

So my mum never stopped watching Neighbours. Since retiring she has actually started watching H&A now too just because she’d catch the tail-end of it when waiting for Neighbours. H&A was never even a thing in our household before that. I watched it at the start occasionally but stopped around the time Dannii Minogue was in it.

Home & Away was always far and away the most popular of the two in Australia, right? I mean it is still running, so I am assuming it still is? Does Channel 5 also pay for the production of that?

I have watched 2 of last weeks episodes and am not sure it was a good idea. It really is RUBBISH when you haven’t watched in over 15 years and don’t really have a clue what is going on. I will just watch again from next week. Are we getting guest appearances all week, or is it just the final episode?

I assume it will be all week - they are popping up already.

I think that is the case over the long term but certainly not at the height of the Neighbours success in the late 80s, surely?

David's hilarious, especially when he tries to do STERN or ANGRY face.

He simply can't do dramatic. His recent doctor death plot was only really saved by other cast members (mostly Freya) being much better. He's lucky he seemed to have some cast immunity by virtue of being one half of the show's only successful gay couple.

I tried it recently - and it was godawful.

It gives their older cast even less to do than Neighbours, and are clearly only paying Alf and Irene still so they can pretend it's still Home & Away. The younger cast are generally even ropier than the Neighbours lot. And it's a misery fest - even less humour and light than Eastenders.

I can’t see any info about it now as it just shows more recent data. Neighbours still draws in around a million viewers to Home & Aways 3-400,000 viewers daily over here I just remember hearing that the Charlene and Scott wedding episode was nowhere near as popular in Australia as it was in the UK comparatively and the Australians always preferred Home and Away.
