funky does Kylie: "DISCO" (2020) (1 Viewer)

So I guess the summary is that I didn't dislike it as much as I expected, but I dislike the fact that it was so MIDDLING. It just felt a bit cynical, made for masses but appealing to nobody in particular type of record. Interesting that she worked with many different voices on this one because there was a consistency in relying on too many tricks and trends. Like most legends, Kylie is much more comfortable when dictating the sound rather than having it dictated to her. This subject will come up a LOT when talking about DISCO. But before that we have another obstacle that I am more than concerned about! But until then...

Also just to say - yeah it's not a great rate, but my rates are always more conversative. Like a 6 is a solid score for me. 5 is average. I'm not one of these "everything I enjoy is a 10" type of gay.

This is all just to say that it wasn't as bad as I thought :)

It's Nom de Strip. She worked with some really cool people but we didn't get to hear any of it.

I have a feeling it's been removed by TPTB, possibly because of copyright issues. :o It was a b-side to Into The Blue.
 
09 Sleeping With The Enemy - see now I'm just baffled. When you have an album of continous, practically wall to wall heavy synth pop, and you have at your disposal an accessible, dreamy pop song with a strong melody ready to go, that will appeal to a wider audience and a much safer all round bet, and you DON'T put it on the main album?

Who exec produced this album? They need SHOOTING!

Sparks is lovely with a very strong chorus vocal, totally let down by that stupid driving drum beat which is SO unnecessary.

I still blame David Guetta for those five or so horrible years when every pop song had to sound like an EDM record.

Kylie('s voice and pop sensibility) usually requires groove rather than bombast IMO. Sia writes fantastic pop-songs for other artists but you can tell it's a Sia song because the chorus often comes with a sledgehammer and that's not a great fit for Kylie.

I quite like "Into The Blue" but I totally get why @funky doesn't think it suits her very well. It is her weakest lead single since the ill-advised "2 Hearts".

I can forgive the disagreeable drum when she's singing like that quite frankly.
 
I totally agree @Apoca. Despite being a pop queen, Kylie just suits the midtempo and lighter production songs that allow her voice to soar. In fact she's even proven herself a dab hand at R&B, way more successfully than heavy dance music. I can see the appeal in her europop stuff, but it wasn't always this loud and heavy. It's just this era that we always have to GET THROUGH. I really don't think time is going to be kind to 2008-2014.
