Only declaring at 6pm today clearly means they didn't really want to close, but the old poof who usually goes around with the mop and bucket squirting Jeyes fluid into the crevices demanded the day off.

The mop sluts have too much power over our institutions to cause disruption. BUST THE MOP SLUT UNION.

Not gonna lie, I genuinely did like and respect her and see her as kind of like our collective gran (I acknowledge I'm a bit thick and heavily indoctrinated) and was sad at her passing. It's not just us, she's loved around the world in some symbolic way. I think maybe it's that it's just nice to all have a collective love for something, in a world so full of hate and conflict, even if that love is misguided and just for a public image.

But yes I'm also finding it ridiculous in many ways. Individuals I can kind of understand, everyone has their own world view and this is a big event in history. It's more the companies tripping over themselves with performative mourning for PR that makes me want to vomit, especially when they're so performatively closed - imagine if you're a kid whose birthday is 19/09 and you've already had a couple of miserable years due to covid.

The Queue... hmm. I can't really judge, I queued at 4am for an iPhone once. I think it goes back to that point I made about wanting to share something on a large collective scale - I was never going to bother (I can't be arsed to go to all the way to London, frankly - can't say for sure what I'd do if I lived nearby) but I can sort of understand the appeal of being part of a big moment in history and trying to make a big number out of it, trying to just make this one person the most loved and mourned in history even if it's misguided. And I'm sure they can have fun camping out and stuff.

*shrug*
At this point though no I'm not that bothered and I really don't see the monarchy in the same light with a bloke in charge. Men have enough power already. I think I just liked being "ruled" (but pretty much not ruled in any meaningful way) by who appears as some kind old lady.
Just enjoying the memes now mostly. Monday I'll be hungover from having a Super Sunday and probably sleep through the funeral.

Quite a SHALLOW discount, all things considered!
It won't be a 6ft discount until Monday

My sympathies for your loss. A 69 squished Garfield salute for your fanny.

So did anyone else count them to make sure @Kate wasn't short changed, or is that just a me thing?

standing in a queue for hours on end for 10 seconds with a bit of wood
My open relationship experience in a nutshell, so far.

At least Nando’s have announced they’ll be open from 4pm.
BIt CHEEKY of them

Respect to David Beckham for waiting 12 hours on his quest to get the knighthood over the line. He should have thrown himself over the coffin and started sobbing like when Rylan got through from judges' houses.

As an ex-watcher of the Big Brother housemates sleeping, I'm finding the live stream to be compelling viewing. But imagine practising your best mourning face and telling people you were going to be on the telly then they cut to a candle or a shot of the ceiling :(

There is no denying that she was the most visually represented female in history.

And the sheer number of heads of state that she met in her lifetime will likely never be topped.

Basically none of your (Royal and otherwise) faves could ever.

How many people even speak English at all? Would it be about a quarter of the global population?

For countries where English is the primary language it wouldn't even be close to a quarter. But I reckon if you added in all the countries where English is either an official language or secondary language (business and education) it would be way over a quarter of the population.

Regardless I imagine the funeral will be available to watch in every country in local language and in most commonwealth countries (which IS a massive fraction of global population) it will be broadcast as a huge deal.

I reckon it'll be over a billion people watching. Maybe not 4 million, but way more than a billion.

She's been headline story (over Trump) on most American news stations for a WEEK now (we have them on at work) and she's not even head of state!

I looked after posting it that, and it seems like it's more like 20% - including secondary language speakers.

Holly and Phillip have not done themselves any favours by queue jumping to see Queenie :o

That photo of Schofield's face is hysterical

What an incredibly stupid thing to do though

For someone indifferent/anti monarchy you seem to be singing an awful lot of their praises in this thread. :D

I've just learned that the Royal family aren't allowed to play Monopoly because in the past they got too competitive. So it's now banned :D

For someone who was supposedly keen on the Queen you seem to be proving the opposite. :D

ATTENTION MOOPY

Rita and Eddie have had a Freaky Friday accident, we do have procedures in place for this sort of thing so please go about your business and don't panic :moopachu:

In what way? I didn’t mind The Queen as I have said several times in this thread and am currently reading an article on her. It ends there.

In the days before she left Windsor to spend the Summer at Balmoral she apparently asked to go down and see her horses. She had been unable to ride her horses for sometime due to mobility issues, but aides asked her if she wanted to sit on the horse. They helped her on to the horse and she done four laps of the indoor riding school. The first time in many years and also the last. I found that very poignant.
