setlist spoilers ahead for the
@monsta bebs of this world whose shows are still to come...
they did the entire Touch of the Beat album (minus Hold Out) including bonus tracks. opened with Break Yourself into Lost Cause which WENT OFF. then Pretty Places and Slow Dancing. I was wondering if they hadn't spunked Slow Dancing too soon, but the setlist sequencing was actually perfect. With Love From sounded better live and each of the new tracks they did was better than the last - Baby Lay You're Head Down is very Symptom of Your Touch, a summery banger, and Blue Dress sounds spectacular.
vocals throughout were exceptional. I always thought Aly sings lead more on record, but AJ actually took lead on more songs than not, and Aly spent a lot of the set on drums/keyboard doing harmonies. both their voices are exceptional. they really showcased a range you don't necessarily hear on record. AJ loves to go for it and performs with real free spirit energy, she was a joy.
the mid section of Paradise/Take Me/Symptom of Your Touch was TOO MUCH TO HANDLE!
I was so thrilled they did Take Me, they said it was the song that put them back on the map. they spoke quite a bit about the process, how songs were written, feeling out the new material on stage, touring despite the economic difficulty. Aly said she hopes to play bigger venues in the future and I'd love that for them but they do seem very slept-on in Europe.
ended with Potential Break Up Song which obviously took the roof off. only complaint is that the crowd were pretty timid, but the girls gave it everything and more. and it really felt like seeing a band more than just a duo, the phenomenal electric guitarist was central to most of the arrangements. incredible show. I'm on a high.
