They...
However to be fair it just shows how anyone can misgender without thinking, I do also. Difference I'm trying to work out with Pie is whether it's on purpose or not (it is with a lot of his followers). His deleted tweet suggested it might be, but still not certain.

A character on YouTube who is a news correspondent, he is usually seen "reporting" on some political news while stood somewhere around parliament or similar and the joke is that you see the recording part end and him ranting and swearing about the issue "off camera", usually at Tim, his director

It's not certain yet, there's just enough plausible deniability. But looks to me like Jonathan Pie has taken his first step on the bandwagon

Not sure it's an accidental misgender either as there was a now deleted quote tweet still calling them "him" towards someone who corrected him.

People will also have the "Jonathan Pie is a character" defence (as if Tom Walker's real self has no input on any of his content at all)

Jonathan Pie hasn’t been funny or relevant for a while now so who gives a fuck

over half a million followers do, and me trying to be an ally towards a group of people who are currently under threat.

Yes maybe I'm a little oversensitive but having followed the stuff with the wizard lady for a bit I'm sensitive to how insidious it is, can't help it. I'd rather this than be watching my trans and non gender conforming friends (got more than my fair share) just being bullied without those bullies being challenged. If that gets me complained at for caring, so be it... I'd say I'm sorry for caring, but I'm not...

I don't care for them at all. I feel like I need to be TEAM SAM SMITH, the same way I feel obliged to be TEAM MEGHAN. My enemy's enemy is my friend and they both do wonderful jobs in making gammon faced right wing nuts explode with rage.

I feel like Sam Smith is in the unenviable position of having been established as quite a milquetoast artist for the Capital FM playlists, and so now they're presenting themself in a way that's alien (or even anathema) to their audience. It's kind of like if Dido followed up 'White Flag' with 'Dirrty'.

Here's how our wonderful fucking press deal with the story of a murdered child, when that child is trans:

This whole thing is fucking disgusting. Between this and all the shit kicking off outside that hotel full of Asylum seekers, I'm ready to don my blackest of antifa cosplay and start stoving some fucking skulls in. This country sickens me at the minute, I am thoroughly ashamed to be British.

What does it mean to deadname someone? I’ve never heard that expression.

Pains me that still, in 2023, the Daily Fail still exists. What has to happen?

Deadnaming is using the name they were given before they transitioned. Utterly pointless and nasty.

To be fair before everyone goes after the optician, and I see they are on Twitter, what’s the odds the ‘journalist’ goaded them into exactly what they wanted to print.

I’d put money on it, honestly.

If this cunt at the opticians isn't fired today then she really, really needs to be.

I feel a bit bad for her in that her quote is kind and suggests she was supportive of Brianna. A lot of folks probably wouldn't know about the concept of deadnaming.

The Daily Mail should have known better than to publish it in their article though.

Oh, the Fail are the biggest villains here without a doubt.

Although, I have found a post on the optician's LinkedIn where she has liked someone saying that Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak is destined for political greatness, so it seems like she might have it coming too.

The problem is, she shouldn't have said anything at all. If I found out my personal data was being disclosed by anyone who has me on their systems, I'd play hell up. I can only imagine how much worse it is for this poor girl's family.

Legally, I don't think it is personal data any more now that she has died. So the family don't have much recourse other than bad publicity for the optician.

I imagine they could fire her for reputational damage though, even if no laws have technically been broken.

The latest mantra the TERFs keep spouting is "there's no such thing as cis" and acting terribly offended at anyone using it. They've effectively declared it a slur. And so you have stories like
that Katy Montgomerie having a drink thrown in her face for being trans and a lot of them going in there with the victim blaming of "well maybe you shouldn't have called him cis then"

They won't tell you what other less cumbersome word they want you to use to specify "non-trans person" rather than cis[gender], at least not usually, imagine my surprise when some of the bolder ones would rather we say "normal".

Same shit as those who got offended by "heterosexual"

I don’t know who Graham Linehan is but did he really write that specifically in response to the dead teenager?

What is wrong with people?

He wrote Father Ted and The IT Crowd, but ever since someone criticised him for a gag in the latter series (where someone finds out the hard way that the girl he was dating is trans) he's been on an increasingly deranged war against trans people, accusing them openly of being groomers etc. Lost his wife over his TERFism ironically, but still blames the trans community for the failure of his marriage.

He's absolutely vile

I’m potentially being a bit hopeful but it would be great if the only thing to come out of Brianna’s needless death is a bit of a Matthew Shepard moment in terms of the bigoted UK discourse around trans people.

Holy shit, is THAT what sent him down this road? I loved the IT Crowd but that episode was a massive misfire. Anyone with a shred of credibility would accept the criticism, learn from it and realise they can still be funny and edgy without punching down. Ricky Gervais, I hope your ears are burning too.

I was just thinking earlier how someone like Tina Fey goes close to the bone, gets criticised and then addresses it or improves. It's PERFECTLY POSSIBLE to be a better person.

Even Frankie Boyle, who has absolutely gone in on everything and everyone during his career is still working and found himself on the right side of history.

Graham Linehan would be a very unsympathetic suicide.

Long story, but my friend has ended up having to post this today, which probably tells you all you need to know:

What’s the context?
He did some stupid tweet about JK Rowling that mentioned Nazis (but also fell well below the threshold for what would be considered libel) and she's got her lawyers onto him. She knows full well that he's not going to have the money to go to court over it so here we are.

I know someone that had the same thing happen to him, and all he did was quote one of her tweets back to her!

There’s ghouls on both sides of this now. People on Twitter have too much to say. None of them know the girl, know her history, know what caused her death or know how their family feels.

I wish everyone would just shut the fuck up now. Make the point, but make the point without the context of the person whose body isn’t even cold yet.

It's true that there's a lot of conjecture out there, and looking at Twitter too much will make anyone go crazy. But there are several accounts of Brianna being badly bullied at school for being trans, and the people working their hardest to create and perpetuate a culture where more trans people will experience that are trying to use her death to further their agenda - personally I think that's far more ghoulish than anything a pro-trans activist could do.
