IS IT WINNING

I will NEVER accept BLASPHEMY, which is here in ABUNDANCE.

NAYSAYERS and HERETICS to be SACRIFICED in the NAME OF JESUS.
It's early days yet. I'm ok with a 70% chance of winning MF and 61.5% chance of winning ESC at this point.

We can give them a few days (translating to 998 more listens :disco:) to see to the light, can't we?

Well it's very accomplished, but her take on Tina Cousins, Euphoria, was on another level. This will be a grower. I hope she performs it on shows like Saturday Night Takeaway and Lorraine over here - it would certainly push it up there for me.

Is Finland really supposed to win?

Now I could maybe accept Loreen not winning, but to be a runner up to Finland, in this year when it already looks like they’ll be joining NATO without us? I just can’t.

JOIN MY LETTER WRITING CAMPAIGN in making our VOICES HEARD. I will NOT REST until all other nations WITHDRAW from Eurovision, to allow this HEAVENLY BEING the ASCENT to a victorious heaven, she so RIGHTLY DESERVES. In the meantime the NAYSAYERS and HERETICS to be SACRIFICED in the NAME OF JESUS.
That's all well and good, but shouldn't she be at home with her husband?

Actually, shouldn't YOU?

TBH I feel like people are slightly overestimating Finland's likelihood of winning because they've been conditioned to expect stuff like it to do really well on the televote, at the same time as ignoring that it never really goes quite the distance because it's that slight bit *too* alienating to a wider audience.

I'm not convinced it isn't more in the ballpark of Hatari than Shum, and I still bear the scars of spending all 2019 (and the best part of £30) convinced that was about to win...

That said, my general observation from the last few years of winners is that winners tend to be distinct and interesting, but crucially usually with a key element that gives them a fair bit of middle of the road appeal. Is Loreen being a known, beloved winner enough in that regard? Maybe, maybe not. But it maybe means the field might still be open for something else to come along.

A winner to me is a song I want to scream the lyrics especially at the end. Hold Me Closer had that moment. Tattoo doesn’t have that moment for me.

Hold Me Closer didn't win ESC though...
It didn’t but many people who made it their Melfest winner said it would win ESC before the war escalated. Sweden sent an authentic entry last year after years of poor televote scores. Now Loreen is interested they’ve forgotten all that and it’s back to the same Melfest pop blueprint.

UK or (more likely) Spain would have won in lieu of Ukraine. Sweden was always a pace behind by the time the contest rolled around.

You're in the wrong place to be spouting that kind of shit sugar tits xxx
The ones hailing Tattoo as a masterpiece are the same ones who complain that Melfest uses the same songwriters and everything sounds too similar.

I know but Sweden won a lot of the pre-contest polls which sustained the fandom hype. Spain and UK weren’t in contention until rehearsals.

In general. I know it’s her musical style but in terms of songwriting I don’t see how she’s evolved much since Euphoria. Songwriting is a skill and singers are constantly writing to improve. Though, it’s better than Alexander Rybak’s effort.

I don't care about who wrote it or evolution, if it sounds good.

Back in the day Vampires are alive won every pre-contest poll and they didn't even qualify for the final, so what? Or that Italian guy with the monkey, the absolute favourite and didn't make the top five. I don' even understand what your point is, anything before rehearsals doesn't really mean anything.

I'm convinced the stage invasion was Loreen's idea in case she wasn't giving her 100%. And all this sympathy after that, what a mastermind  We haven't had anything like this since Caroline of Ugglas had a car accident on purpose that put her name in all the headlines and almost makes her win.

Yes, considering the overlap in voter appeal with Kalush and the considerably worse draw Spain got it would've likely beaten the other two on an equal playing field. UK and Sweden ends on about equal footing taken into account UKs better draw. Of course then you could also consider the UK disadvantage of not competing in a SF.

Either way, it doesn't change the fact that all three could've beaten each other under the right circumstances. They all had the potential mass appeal to be winners in the weakest of ESCs (2011, 2018, 2014), but 2-4th are quite generous outcomes in a normal year.

I've found myself mumbling along to Amar Pelos Dois and 1944 on more than one occasion so it's not something out of the ordinary.

On what planet does Tattoo sound a thing like most Melfest winners we've had in the last ten years?!

I love the insinuation that Tattoo is inauthentic. Even ASIDE from maintaining her commitment to indiscernible vowels and howling like she's just trod on a thousand Legos, is the implication here that those AREN'T HER REAL NAILS?!

Her talent is in interpretation of songs and using visual art to bring that narrative to life. She is a storyteller. And what makes her a perfect act for the medium of Eurovision/Melfest is that she uses the constraints of having just three minutes to her advantage, by committing her whole body and voice to her performances.

A recent visit to The Tate Modern brought up an interesting conversation about Loreen- Euphoria in the same context Paul Cézanne The Basket of Apples

because both are pieces of art that changed the way in which people thought about what was possible to achieve in that medium, and both can be thought of as completely changing their respective landscapes. Both made such an impact that we can think of them as creating a ‘Before This’ and ‘After This’ effect.

It seems strange to me, therefore, to bring up a lack of supposed ‘evolution’ when you see a performance like ‘Tattoo’, as the purpose of Loreen’s art (and indeed, Cézanne’s) is to deepen the exploration into the human perspective. So what may look and sound like similar performances to you, is actually more about your inability to see the new stances and depth that Loreen is immersing herself into. Enjoy the ride, I say!

it's gotta be POTW. :disco:

the song is beautiful but it's better paired with the experience of the performance. which luckily enough for her is exactly how both melodifestivalen and Eurovision are consumed :disco: I don't know if it will win but it COULD and that's quite exciting
