It being a viral hit, seemed inevitable from the first moment I heard it.

I don't disagree that's it's super fun and catchy and I've played it a lot. I just know she's capable of making exceptional music (Say Something for example) without pandering to the need of being viral for viral's sake.

It's not necessarily a bad thing wanting a hit through modern means, I think I'm just being old.

But @Sheena CGYOOMYH was an exceptionally crafted trend setting hit for the ages, up there with some of the greatest pop tracks of all time. This is, and I don't mean to demean her efforts, at best fun pop, at worst throwaway pop that doesn't add to her legacy in the way recent lesser hits do IN MY OPINION.
 
I can think of at least five worse and more pandering Kylie releases from the past decade or so. Kiss Me Once is basically an entire album of music by focus group.

If anything, this feels like it hits a perfect sweet spot between being unmistakably Kylie in sound while also lending itself to a brilliant marketing campaign with all the memes.

You'll love the album then because this song is basically just a vehicle to promote a project which peddles what she usually does - and it's great - she takes Say Something and magnifies it ten fold on a song like Hold Onto Now for example.

I want her to record more songs with a bit of an edge (as I believe this song has) so hopefully the success of this will give her something to think about moving forward.

I don't find this derivative AT ALL.

The verses are positively Stranger Things-esque. They have a darker tone to them than ANYTHING she has released in the last decade.

Do we think that the success is solely down to the song itself? I was just thinking, if this had been a Madonna or say, a Cher song, would it be gaining the same amount of traction?

As others said, I really think this is a sum of all parts situation with Kylie, goodwill and right song right time being big components. :disco:

half of KMO was actually quite forward thinking and relatively experimental for her? the other half... not so much.
 
This is also probably one of the fastest growing threads on moopy for a single song.

I listened to it four times in a row this morning (partly because Kids was the next song on the playlist). I'm obsessed. Is it weird the lyrics make me a bit EMOSH?

There's something I find emotional/gay/empowering about the whole dancing through pain/bad times motif that she goes for sometimes
 
And back again at #1 on iTunes. Who's have thought that a week after release she'd be trading places with a new Taylor Swift song?

Kylie uses dance and dancing as a metaphor for life and living. It's there throughout her entire back catalogue. Honestly, I could write a thesis on it.

The great thing is the story of this being a viral hit out of nowhere is bigger than the song itself at the moment. Now if if the song was SHIT, that would only last a news cycle. But because the song is so catchy and clearly striking a chord, the attention will impact the success of the song. I don’t see how this isn’t a hit for her.
