Let’s not be too sad - it’s been a smash and soon there will be a number one album and a tour on the way. She is in an amazing place career wise - commercially successful and, crucially, culturally relevant.
 
Yes, there must be a reasonable chance she'd be very close to being out of the top 20 anyway (well, depending on how many of those mix tapes she managed to flog), so I can't say I'm bothered at all by position. It's irrelevant now. Job very much done by any measure.
 
Yeah it’s done marvellous, and ACR hits everyone so it’s always going to hit her too. A few more weeks top 75, a nice album release boost and hopefully hitting Gold around the year-end will nicely finish off a great HIT for her.
 
Am I right in thinking that ACR doesn't affect overall cumulative sales, just the weekly chart?
 
Yep, actual sales for year end charts, certifications and all that are on the full amounts, it’s just for the weekly charts that streams are halved.
 
I guess some tapes got sent out.

I'm definitely ready for a new song, even if not the proper follow up single.
 
Clearly the success of Padam was not anticipated - I wonder if they had originally planned to have the second single out by now, given her commitments elsewhere?
 
It’s difficult to distinguish between a single and a grat song these days but they would have surely released a second song in some capacity by now had it not been for this success

I believe we speculated as much several times before.

Magic was released 9 weeks after Say Something, with I Love It four weeks after that, and the album two weeks later.

We're now 11 weeks after Padam was released with no confirmation of second single yet.

There was about 3.5 months from the release of Say Something until Disco, a couple of weeks less than from Padam to Tension. I very much expect that they had a similar campaign in mind, based on Padam having one week on the chart.
 
Not too often, they’re usually reserved for the singles and a full campaign.

I’m still happy with the second single being launched in about four weeks, to align closer with the album and give it as a good chance as possible to score a second (albeit likely much smaller) hit.

Well, I heard it and I knew.

Ok, that's a total stretch but I listened to the crappy LQ leak thinking "oh, this straddles the line between left-field, big pop energy and catchy so well that it might just cross over". Didn't imagine it would escalate the way it did and I don't think anyone in her team did either.
 
probably someone at the label thought it might go viral but others would've been pushing for a song like Hold On To Now, I'm sure

original 2nd single release date was today, August 2nd apparently
 
Number 1 on the US Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart (her first since Red Blooded Woman in 2004).

Number 40 on the Adult Pop Airplay chart (for comparison, CGYOOMH peaked at number 23).
 
The adds date for pop radio was cancelled, indicating the remix that’s been rumoured may be coming (as you wouldn’t cancel a radio adds date for no reason when it’s already #41 on the chart). The only other reason might be to move on and hit the second single, but that’d be very unlikely for the US given its her first one to chart in 19 years.
