Leigh-Anne - Don't Say Love

I do like this. She's not got the showiest voice of the Little Mix girls but I think I would rather listen to her for a whole song than the others.

Yes, the charts are different these days, but I wouldn't call a song with one week in the top 50 a solid hit.
Particularly when that one week in the top 50 was so heavily based on cheap signed CD singles. Which incidentally are still available, two for £1.99.

Can we have a definition of 'massive on the radio for months now' as well, please?

Probably worth pointing out that Jesy Nelson's chart run was also thwarted by the Christmas market. She departed the chart the first week of December, when it was already over a third Christmas songs. Given that Jesy managed 6 weeks higher than Leigh-Anne fell to in her second week, I'm calling Don't Say Love a bigger flop, even if she's managing to clog up the arse end of the chart due to not hitting ACR yet, and not being confronted with Christmas streaming.

I'd agree with you @VoR in terms of the being no sense of her having made a fool of herself, but that's largely just because Jesy is well, Jesy, and that outside of Little Mix fans, nobody really cares about Leigh-Anne.

the next single might be a collab with Ayra Starr who is on fire right now so maybe there's still a chance.

She does have negative star power, but the good news is, the UK charts are pretty accomodating to faceless hook girls, so there's hope for her yet - and she has an existing fanbase to give her a leg up.

Yes as had already said I don't think she will set the world alight, but if she wants to plug away there may be a career there rather than diverting to all things reality

There may be. But based on the performance of Don't Say Love, I'd say it's less likely than it was before it was released.

The song was just alright and for her, that was never going to be good enough.

I wonder when Perrie and Jade are going to release their debut singles.

One wonders if they will even bother, especially Perrie. I just cannot see it happening for any of them - the only one with any material media following was Jesy (and that is a negative one).

I still don’t think the expectations would have been all that high compared to how it has done. Her team will be very aware they were an ensemble, they as a group weren’t exactly guaranteed big hits with every release by the end, that she isn’t a huge personality artist etc.

Personally I couldn’t imagine a solo single from any of them doing much better than this healthy mid-chart run other than a one off collab with a hot DJ or something.

To be honest, I find 'healthy mid chart run' a stretch. It's a flop.

I just don't think there was any appetite for her as a solo act in the first place. Not sure that negates it being branded a "flop" but I guess it didn't perform below my expectations.

Well, first week fan base sales aside (which were hardly overwhelming, if she signed enough for the 'limited edition' to still be being sold for a quid two months later), what evidence is there really to support it being a hit as some are proclaiming?

Because there doesn't seem to be any real evidence of much appetite by any audience to actually buy it or stream it.

It’s one of my most played songs of the year, I love it, I don't care for how it has done (or not done) on the charts because I haven’t followed the charts for a long time now.

I think Jade has the best change because in my bubble she’s beloved, that probably won’t transfer over to charts either but again… don’t really care

Now that "Don't Say Love" has crashed out of the UK charts but surpassed 10 million streams on Spotify, Leigh-Anne is teasing her new single "My Love", promising to, quote, "come for every wig that's ever existed" :disco:

A clip. Will reserve judgement until I’ve heard the full thing :)

it sounds very afropop influenced. not many songs of that genre have really made a mark in the UK. but she tried uk garage and it didn't work so why not switch it up?
