I've no recollection of either in that year, but as I've noticed since doing this chart, looking at one week in isolation (never mind one day) never really tells you too much. I'll have a deeper look and see if I can find how the big three soaps were doing generally in 2011.

After I typed that I did actually think Eastenders DID overtake Corrie at one point and for quite some time. I’m not really sure.

I don't think she has done much UK TV at all. Guess she was based in the US when she was married to the Jonas.

She's really fucking good in Joan though. I've seen the first four episodes and enjoyed it but have been so impressed with her.
 
Yes I am impressed with her in Joan too, it will definitely raise her profile over here.
 
I knew Bake Off was big business even in its inevitable decline era, but I had no idea it was outperforming the market to this extent.

 
Yes, although it speaks to the decline of the market of live viewing (and the fragmentation of it) as much as the success of the show itself.

I imagine BBC will be very happy with that figure for Ludwig. We've watched it all, and I enjoyed it a lot, although I love David Mitchell generally. I think anyone who doesn't like him would struggle with it. And the magnificent Anna Maxwell Martin was underused in it. It's clearly set up for a second series which I assume we're likely to be getting on this response, so I hope she's got a bit more to do in series two.
 
The Thursday episode of EastEnders brought the whole average down considerably as it only had 2.479m viewers. According to BARB it was on BBC1 at 7.30pm - is that its usual time? A change of time or channel is usually what's to blame when an episode dips. It would probably have ended up at #11 otherwise
 
Married At First Sight UK got 2.485m. And for every show, its overnight figure was under half its total.

It'll be interesting to see how Big Brother compares.
 
I enjoyed the first four episodes of Nightsleeper, which we watched on one night. Perhaps it was waiting overnight that did it no favours, but the fifth (particularly) and sixth episodes just wasn't what I wanted.

I'm not certain that either Joe Cole or Alexandra Roach were right for the parts, either.
 
I binned it off after two episodes. I enjoyed the story and the ensemble, but I don't think I've ever found a pair of lead actors less appealing than those two
 
I made it all the way through Nightsleeper. It was plainly ridiculous and riddled with plot holes, but reasonably enjoyable. Let's hope they don't get it into their heads to do a completely unnecessary second series.
 
I think my problem with Alexandra Roach in everything I've seen her in (and that isn't much) is that I can never shake the thought of her in Hunderby from my head.

And Hunderby was only faintly more ridiculous than this.
 
I enjoyed Nightsleeper but I think it probably could have been probably 2 episodes shorter. I think the main lead Joe Cole is brilliant in everything he is in. He is outstanding in Gangs of London.

I've not seen Joe Cole in anything before. But I found him unlikeable, expressionless, and lacking any kind of leading man charisma in Nightsleeper.
 
Corrie seems to be strengthening its lead on Eastenders as time goes on. WHY OH WHY!?

Was that not just the part he was playing? :D

He is most famous for Gangs of London and Peaky Blinders so I’m not surprised BBC selected him as the main character as he is quite big business at the moment.
 
I don't think he was meant to be lacking in charisma or expression, at least. But yes, some of the dialogue was appalling for anyone to rise above.

Married At First Sight UK had 2.453m (strong estimate as all but one episode charted on BARB), and would be about #25 of the week.

The Big Brother launch got 1.311m, although that figure excludes device viewing. If you assume a similar uplift in device viewing as MAFS UK (which is one of, if not the best performing programmes on device viewing - but I'd say they are likely to have a similar demographic appeal), then I'd estimate Big Brother ended up around the 1.5m mark.
 
If you look at the corresponding weeks last year, Strictly is remarkably stable - in fact very slightly up (0.8%) whereas GBBO is down a fraction over a million (13.6%).
 
And as a snapshot of one week, these are how shows compare to the week spanning September and October in 2019, which is the year when I first started posting the chart here:

Big drops for all. I wonder how much the audience share has dropped as tv ratings are down massively across the board. It would be interesting to see what the audience shares are to gauge how much tv shows are falling out of favour with those who still mainly watch terrestrial television. I’m assuming those would be a lot harder to get a hold of at this point?
 
The percentage share figures I post are from thinkbox, which has no archive. BARB does have an archive (so you can look back at any week), but it doesn't give % share.

I know occasionally I've posted them, particularly with regard to Strictly and IACGMOOH, as they seem to be about the only two programmes left now which have huge live audiences. I'm fairly sure that in terms of % share, for Strictly at least it's been pretty stable over the time I've posting the chart. I'd guess (and looking at the figures I posted above may seem to support it) that its decline is in line with the overall decline in viewing, whereas the soaps for example are all losing viewers at a rate quicker than that.

I think that's the first time I've seen two Channel 5 shows in the chart simultaneously.

And that would put it 36% down on the first week last year, or 27.5% down on the average for last series as a whole.
 
The BBC are going to be very pleased with the way that Ludwig is not just holding but ticking up. I'm behind with my telly but I enjoyed the first two episodes.

That DI Ray figure looks low. I binged the whole season and it was OK but far from the best. Not sure if I should have watched first season before jumping straight in to the second.

Would RIVALS be eligible for this week's chart? (Disney are on BARB, right?)
