So, we're presumably looking at a classic scenario...Xmas songs start to fall off after Wednesday afternoon so next Friday's chart will be full-on Xmas again and then the following week we have that ridiculous chart with 70 re-entries and songs climbing 50-60 paces.

Yes, it's the perfect chart storm, isn't it? If I remember from previous years, streams of Christmas songs drop significantly on Boxing Day, but are still considerable compared to the rest of the chart, and then pretty much collapse entirely on the 27th, which is the start of the next chart week. We won't really have a chart which is mixed.

Although as Boxing Day is a Thursday, presumably those streams will be estimated in any case.

I had a quick look at how other countries listen to Xmas songs. In the UK 9/10 is Xmas songs including no.1.

But then I realised I had no idea if I was ignoring local Xmas songs. I mean I can't imagine the Danes for example look at the UK charts and presume Fairytale of New York is a Christmas song.

However France, Italy and Spain don't especially appear to indulge.

Yes, almost all of the acknowledged great Xmas albums are from the US - Ella Fitzgerald recorded hers in 1960 and the crooners were all at it in the same decade. The UK's efforts are much more about singles, arguably peaking in 1973 but then, 1984 was no slouch.

I do get it. It’s very catchy, even if I don’t love it, and she’s obviously a huge name. It does see, to be quite loved amongst the younger crowd, too.

Leona went triple platinum this week, a week or two after Kelly and I see Ariana did that just before Xmas last year - so all three of those are still really rather close overall.

'Consumption' ( ) of Last Christmas (including the original Last Christmas/Everything She Wants) is now at 5,984,618 units. Consumption Last week was 59,426 units, including 2,067 CDs & 4,398 12" vinyl.

All I Want For Christmas becomes the first song in chart history to spend 100 weeks in the top 40, and holds the record for most weeks in the top 10 with 48. Its total consumption is 5,361,916.

A quick glance at Icelands spotify shows me that our first non-Christmas song is all the way down at #17, and of those 16 12 are Icelandic - everyone ends up making a christmas song/album here (the 4 foreign ones being Wham #5 , Mariah #8, Brenda Lee #11 and Sia #14)

Do the first look midweeks not include ANY data from Spotify, or is it just Saturday data missing? Last Christmas has been streamed nearly 2.3m times on Spotify over Friday and Saturday, so that 500 lead will be wiped out easily anyway.

I think it only includes Friday streaming, which I assume includes Spotify, but definitely not Saturday. But they will surely easily take over as the week goes on and they get massive numbers.

I think Amazon get their stats in on time, but Spotify do not even relating to a Thursday where streams are estimated. Which seems odd, as in if Amazon can why can’t others…
