Oh that's sad. Easily one of my favourite pairs on this show. I was only thinking about how Jo was doing (as she'd had cancer) while watching this week's ep :(
 
That's shocking. I'm also always wondering about Jo (and always have a fear whenever the thread gets bumped in non-airing months).

What a good experience for him to have had. :(
 
Mind you, when I was her age, I spent my first night interrailing on a Paris campsite crying in a tent I couldn't put up :D
 
As someone who doesn't do well with loud noise, crowds, or random livestock in places random livestock shouldn't be, I have a lot of sympathy for Sioned during the urban bits of India. What a HORROR SHOW!
 
Why the fuck didnt the welsh couple ask that girl for an alternative route?!

That was edited well because I thought they had pissed it. Shouldnt have been fucking about with wine.
 
Where did they go wrong? It didn’t look like got particularly stuck somewhere? Vineyard I guess, 10 hours on the road to get there :D

Loved the tension of whether Tom and Caroline had the train tickets or not :D

Really have enjoyed them all growing in confidence as travellers just because it’s so similar my interrail experience (but obv theirs is much harder). I remember being in Brussels at the start not even knowing how to navigate a Subway and then by the end I’m telling all the newbies all the interrail trade secrets. Good times.
 
Reddit were really bigging up the “stunning” tribute to AR SAM, I went back to watch it thinking it was going to be a 3 minute montage to a slowed down version of Survivor (DC3) but was just a photo

They were very clearly well ahead after the ferry.

Farting around drinking wine well off the beaten track, and taking a mountainous route on buses is what did them. Bad choices.

I don't know why anyone is bothering to work in India. They're earning pennies from it.
 
I get the impression that money generally isn't that much of an issue this race? It just doesn't seem to being mentioned as much as usual, or at least any real sense of peril about it.
 
It did seem odd to me that all the other teams seemed to dismiss the idea of the ferry without much thought.

In earlier episodes they made a point of showing that Fin and Sioned had much less money left than the others but this week I don't remember it being mentioned. If it was going to be an issue for them in the finale I would have expected some foreshadowing.
 
Looking on Google maps from the starting checkpoint of the episode to Surat takes 11hrs in a car including crossing on the ferry or between 12 - 14 hrs on buses staying on land so maybe the time saving wasn’t as much as they thought.

One of them thought it would take close to a full day for anyone to go by land.

Yeah Ms Ron mentioned that no one has had to desperately hitchhike or anything. India is dirt cheap.
 
I agree that money has been less of an issue. I assumed at the start people would talk about spending more in China/Nepal as their money might go further in India as the finish line approaches
 
Another super ep this week. I can't call who I want to win, and crucially there's no couple I don't want to win either.

I'm pleased we know Posho Mum's a lowkey DRESSAGE CHAMPION, else I'd be calling Refuge to give the husband a once over after her "at home I'm not used to making decisions... I haven't made a decision in 20 years" speech.

One of my friends referenced Melvin having a voice that "sounds like the 1970s" and I can't stop thinking about it, it's so accurate.

Is one of the reasons booking travel is hard, is that they need to actually book 4 tickets each time, because as well as the couple there's the crew? I'm assuming so as they can't be left alone. It must have an impact sometimes with all the packed trains/buses.
 
I think it’s one extra seat they need as they can take a camera person and the rest will go in the follow car
 
There’s quite a lot of chat on Reddit about it not focussing on the travel and too much on the sob stories, but either I’ve not really noticed or I enjoy the personal stories a lot more than I realised. But what is there to film when someone’s on a bus for 23 hours?

Maybe I need to watch series 1 again to see how it used to be but don’t imagine it’s any different as even back then they seemed to be given a travel guide with homestays, work and activities?
 
I don't know if it's any more times pent on sob stories either, but it certainly hasn't tipped my threshold this series.

Still don't know who I want to win.
 
I think right at the end I was rooting for Fin and Sioned, but felt it was between the other two.

They must get shooed out of the way right after signing the book.
