113. People who publicly declare "I'm a straight talker"
I was helping a user at work (IT) who went on and accused me of infecting his computer with a virus to make him bad at his job (no, your sheer incompetence manages that) and he started swearing at me and saying that he’s upset other people before and declaring “tbh I haven’t got a filter”

Ok so you’re aware you haven’t got a filter but don’t bother to use it. Brilliant. :manson:

The bizarre logic of "If I warn people I'm a cunt then I can't be a cunt surely"

It’s not their fault you don’t have a ZEST FOR LIFE!
That was just an example, but the people who think having a ZEST FOR LIFE means having to pour endless amounts of alcohol down your throat, and anyone who doesn't is a boring bastard, definitely belong on this thread for me!

I don't give a shit what anybody else orders, I just hate it when people expect others to foot the bill for it.

I’m in a little group of 6 people whom regularly go out to various places for dinners around the city to try different things. We mainly go for places where we order loads of dishes and share them amongst everyone tapas style.

We always split the bill equally with a couple of exceptions. If the one vegetarian in the group only has limited options and couldn’t try everything, and if anyone decides they don’t want to drink alcohol, then we’ll just adjust the amount, but still round it up/down accordingly. We don’t itemise the bill because FFS we’re not 20 anymore.

Yeah well that's a bit different. I'm talking about people who take the absolute piss.

Although to be honest, I'd rather not have to socialise anyway because I don't really enjoy it anymore.

In my learning of German stuff, over there seem to be 2 systems:

1) If you invite a bunch of people specifically to go out (e.g. for your birthday meal) then you pay... for everyone. Because well, you're the one who wanted them there. So whatever you do, make sure to attend everyone else's birthdays!

2) More casually day to day when a few of you agree to go somewhere between you, then you pay separately. You get automatically asked "together or separate?" be it fast food or a restaurant they always ask. If separate they break down who had what for you and take payments one at a time.

The notion of splitting a bill equally is weird to them. It's just us who "don't like to fuss" about money. Honestly whilst I hate no. 1 and prefer our system that usually the birthday person is told to put their wallet away while everyone else splits the bill, I think no. 2 works pretty well when it's the norm. Servers are just armed with a lot of change and used to tracking who had what so they can do it efficiently. It's not like here where they'll sigh and tut at the group for being awkward.

Generally I'm fine with our quick and easy even split. Sometimes you get that one person who takes the piss and strategises maximum gain for it (my friend used to do that a lot, right down to handling the bill and pocketing the tips if he thought people tipped too much! He's mended his ways now though). But it's self policing for those who have more balls than I did.

God do people even bother having birthday meals then? :D Go out on your birthday and you’re £400 down after socialising with cunts you’ve decided you don’t actually like.

Oh we were being asked this a lot when I was at Europa Park but I wasn’t sure if it was just a touristy thing and if they were just going to split it down the middle anyway. We always just had someone pay and then split on Splitwise

Daniel Kitson nailed this one: "oooh, sorry, I'm just a bit of an arsehole and there's nothing I can do about it except for changing the things I do and say".

Yeah I'm not sure, I think a lot just have it as a family thing at home!

I think it might be a generational thing though. When I was over seeing t'other half his parents absolutely insisted on paying when we went out with that traditional "but we invited you" mindset. But he was trying to offer to chip in as well. Not sure if I'm talking bollocks but I imagine the younger generations getting squeezed more financially than the boomer gen are less keen to dump €400 on inviting some people out for a meal!

But I suppose it has another side to it. It'd make sure you only invite people you actually like, and you're incentivised to respond positively to other people's invitations and be sociable. I suppose you'd just save up.

125. People in a friend group who are the first to moan about itemised bill splitting or going out to cheaper venues or going for just a 4* hotel, when they are the only one in their group earning £100k+

127. Going to the "a few items / cigs / scratch cards" kiosk with a £68 trolley load of shopping (as I just got stuck behind waiting to pay for 3 items)

Isn't there generally a happy medium between whipping the calculator or a notepad out, and taking the piss?

The majority of the time I'm out with friends we just split it evenly, unless some have clearly had more food and/or drink, in which case invariably we/they just offer to put an extra tenner in or whatever.

Some people clearly just have awful friends. Or are an awful friend.

Yes, not to trigger anyone as I see it's been mentioned in here but it's called COMMON SENSE

I just throw my card into the middle of the table and say GIVE IT BACK WHEN YOU’RE DONE :disco:

Life’s too short to quibble about that side of spinach that you never touched.

Although if anyone at the table hasn’t drank, then yes I’ll make sure they just give less. But just round it up. You’re out for the evening, nobody pays for only what they consumed.
