The Israel-Gaza war and wider Middle-East tensions

LIGHTEN up, doll. i was joking of course you'd be allowed in. it's not the Gaza side of the apartheid where gays get publicly hanged to death.

good i would advise most of the girls in this forum to not speak about Israel NO TEA NO SHADE but stick to topics you actually know a lot about like Madge's discography, the rise of Tommy Robinson, whether Scotland should separate, if bringing Max Martin on board is a good move for Tay at this stage in her career, etc.

Well that isn’t what I meant but sure J(o)an

Maybe if we hadn’t been fed distinctly pro-Israel propaganda in the UK the last 60 years (prior to the last couple of years) we’d know a bit more truth about it all :(

I was genuinely gobsmacked by some East London gay cliché* friend-of-a-friend making a Holocaust joke after visiting the Imperial War Museum of all places. More gobsmacked still that nobody else pushed back on it at all.

I do feel like a lot of people who see themselves as ~progressive~ have allowed themselves to become, at best, blind to antisemitism in a way they wouldn't be to discrimination against any other minority group.

* The moustache should have been a giveaway.

Well yes because so-called "progressives", and the whole Left in general, have just as many philosophical blindspots as the Right and they're absolutely riddled with White Guilt.

White guilt is an American construct. Let’s not generalise.

The coining of that specific phrase may have happened from within the American context, but the underlying idea isn’t uniquely American at all.

'Remorse politics' is typical of virtually any human government in history, including European ones, and it always has its champions and its challengers. I think there's a strong sense of historical responsibility among modern Europeans. But every new generation brings with it its own perceived responsibility and it's out with the old and in with the new. I think that's a possibility here.

Lovely to see how fundamentally unpopular Netanyahu is with most of the world

Wasn’t sure where would be most appropriate to post this, but it’s worth watching.

Is anyone else completely unconvinced by this ceasefire? Why is everyone (the media) calling it a victory given the history of pretty much everything very ceasefire in existence?

Also I’m kinda disgusted by the propaganda showing “jubilant” Palestinians celebrating the news. I doubt most have time to celebrate anything given 90% of them don’t have a home and are grieving dead relatives.

Great that the hostages will (hopefully) come home now, but I doubt rebuilding Gaza to exactly the way it was is on the list of things Israel needs to do as part of the agreement.

The difference seems to be that Smotrich and Ben-Gvir while opposed aren't collapsing the government.

Sadly, I think the word we need to add is "yet". The moment Netanyahu is threatened again, I imagine the ceasefire will collapse so he can avoid his trial and, likely, prison.

The thing is Israel will not respect the ceasefire and will probably keep killing civilians anyway. In the 10 months that have followed the ceasefire with Lebanon, Israel still managed to murder more than a 100 civilians. It just no longer gets talked about.

Israel have spent 80 years repressing the people of Palestine. This is fuck all, they've just "stopped" slaughtering Palestinians en masse and we're supposed to do what?

The way that the Knesset is fellating Trump at the moment is quite sickening, and he hasn't even started speaking yet.

Though Benjamin Netanyahu is about to speak so I can't imagine how much worse it is about to get.

Why would you subject yourself to such awfulness?

He's now riffing with other world leaders in most embarrassing way I think I've ever seen.

The Irani water crisis is looking really dire. 16 million people possible evacuated from the capital is crazy. I hope this topples their garbage theocracy once and for all. Their decades-long mismanagement and abuse of water resources is unforgivable.

In fact 400 Palestinians have died since the conflict ended.

And they're ploughing on with West Bank settlements.

Israel, to act in a legal decent manner challenge

Surprised nobody's posted about this yet. The Irani crackdown is getting really bad.
