Friday for the first time, feels truly Wicked

Up. Still in a medical state commonly referred to as "fucked". I swear even the worst of Covid passed quicker than this.

Sister-in-law's birthday today. Sent her a card as I do every year, addressed to Mrs *brother's surname*. This morning me, my sister and spawn have all been added to a Whatsapp group by sister in law with the message "Hi, thanks for the birthday cards, just for the record my surname is *old maiden name-brother's surname*. I kept my maiden name when I got married 24 years ago 🤣 hope you are all well and keeping warm xx". We've all replied with basically the same message "Sorry, didn't realise, will make sure it's correct in the future. Hope you have a great birthday xxx"

There's now another Whatsapp group calling her a passive-aggressive bitch.

Sounds like my sister in law, whatever you do is always WRONG.

My sister-in-law calls us both "Rolt-Peachey" which really annoys me, as we've never double barrelled and it's the WRONG WAY ROUND to actually scan properly.

I used to double barrel @Star, just because I like her initials.

I wish I hadn't now as it's such a faff. And my work email address is just so long :durst: I flit between double-barrel and my married name which causes issues in some places aswell.

I didn't know you were double-barrelled either! Why haven't you sent me a passive-aggressive message?! :D

She only does aggressive-aggressive. Who do you think has been sending those dead horses heads every year since the wedding?

So you are officially double-barrelled? I thought it was a joke :shy:

What do we write on your cards? That'll be whatever Mr L has in his address book.

I think we both have major double barrel regret.

I think in the moment you just get carried away almost. All my official documents are double barrel, but otherwise I just use my married name. I would change it again but it all takes so long.

I've never really given it much thought, but I imagine we'd both just decide to keep our own surnames.

But then wouldn't you have a different surname to your children?

Yes :D My passport, driving licence, work stuff is all double barrelled.
Mr L must have picked that up from somewhere because he always sends double barrel!

Both of us mostly use our original names, but the DB creeping in more and more. Mr Ag has a DB work email, which is unnecessarily long.

We kinda did it out of fairness. He wanted to take my name because it's cool and I didn't think it was fair that he'd have my name and I wouldn't have his. It made it look like a power imbalance, which it very much isn't.

I always assume that people who double barrel their names, especially if they’re inconsistent about using it, are secretly international super-spies. @Star definitely is.

I am so inconsistent with it. It is in my passport though, which every single institution accepts as proof of my original name.

Oh and the bank put spaces before and after the hyphen so my name doesn't fit on the card :)

Hyphens are pains. Some forms accept them, some don't. My bank card I'm always unsure if I should put it the way it shows on my card, or the "correct" way. We did it because we wanted to adopt our little sproggan and all have the same name  but there are definite technological ANNOYANCES.

Try having an apostrophe.

Many forms still don't accept it, and I consider it RACIST.

My passport apparently is technically invalid as when I was 14 I used the shortened version of my full name and no one checked it and it’s just been reissued as such ever since. As a result, my entire life is in the name Dan rather than Daniel, which I like, but technically it isn’t correct as it has to be the same as your birth certificate unless you deed poll change it/ get married etc. I was tempted to change it permanently and give myself a stupid middle name for LOLs but never have gotten around to it.

Bizarre. It's not like it's strange or particularly uncommon!

Exactly, Irish catholics have spread out across the world and bred like fucking rabbits, it's hardly a unique quirk limited to a few people in and around CORK.

I'm fairly certain I've had the problem in Ireland as well!

A friend of mine has NEVER used her real name. Her birth certificate name was never changed but on every official document she has an alternative surname (I think her mother's rather than her absent father).

A "Peachey Rolt" sounds like something a fashionable bakery would sell out of in minutes each morning.

Double barrelling is quite tricky - two of my friends had a long convo about it because his surname is "Dunnett" and she didn't want to be (to use a known person) Hetty Wainthrop Dunnett. However, she is. That's true love for ya.

Well I'm a bit hungover, but fairly fine. Off to London for the weekend tomorrow for Mr Ag's birthday. A whole weekend of eating, drinking and shopping plus the theatre, immersive art and museums.

Colour me fucking delighted.

OT: Does anyone know if flights drop in price super close to when you fly nowadays? I feel it's probably not a thing in this day and age. I've literally never booked this late, but am debating going to Helsinki on Sunday for a conference, but the cheapest flight I can find is £450, which seems insane.

Been for a mammogram this afternoon. They're done in the local sports/health centre, on the first floor. So I arrived, went up the stairs to the first floor and there was nobody on reception so I walked back downstairs to main reception where there was a sign saying not to book in for breast screening, just take a seat upstairs so I walked back up the stairs again. My Fitbit decided that was me doing a workout, I assume because I lead quite a sedentary lifestyle. It says I was in the active zone for seventeen minutes, I really wasn't - I was just lost in the health centre :D

I had a smear the other day and thankfully they've now increased the interval to once every 5 years!
