What jumps out to me on first glance is 'Wicked: For Good' missing in best musical/comedy.

Dwayne Johnson and Jeremy Allen White are no longer considered to be in the Oscars race so I'm glad they've shown up here at least so that I didn't put myself through those movies for nothing.

Struggling to see how Rose Byrne’s performance was in a Musical/Comedy. It’s anything but.

Also strange to class One Battle After Another like that too, but NOT Jeremy Allen White.

Six nominees, and they still snubbed Cynthia this year. The first Wicked was definitely better, but I was hoping Ariana might get the Oscar and right now it doesn't look like there's enough love and support for the movie. 🤔
 
It's been announced that YouTube will have exclusive rights to broadcast the Oscars starting from 2029, with the deal currently extending until at least 2033. :bad:

Not that it matters to me as I've never watched live, but it feels like the kind of thing that should always have a home on traditional TV.
 
I love the change. There’ll be a time (probably in our lifetimes) where barely anything is on ‘traditional TV’ and I think that’s a good thing. It’s such an outdated model.
 
Miles better than Chelsea Handler's opening for the People's Choice Awards the other week (which was still fine I guess).
 
I also enjoyed Chelsea's! but Nikki is a dream fit for this kind of light roast. I think she's the funniest comedian right now.
 
I liked when she was on Howard Stern sharing all the jokes that didn't make the cut or were deemed too much for another awards show. Hope she does it again.

The complete lack of Wicked even in the technicals is suspicious. In what way was the costume design on Avatar and Hamnet better? How was the Production Design in One Battle After Another impressive but Wicked not? How was The Rock’s prosthetic forehead better than Wicked for Make-Up?
 
I suspect the voters just felt they'd already rewarded it plenty for part one. Aside from the (boring) new songs, what new elements were introduced?
 
Sentimental Value should have been right up my street but I must admit I was a little bored by it. Much preferred Joacim Trier's previous showcase for Renata Reinsve, The Worst Person In The World.

Elle Fanning in particular, while fine, did virtually nothing to merit an Oscar nomination.

They just go for shiny new things when they come up. I guess the more muted critical reception and lower box office didn't help. And they usually prefer period costumes over fantasy.
 
plus it was literally one film shot in one go and split into two parts, so having recognised it once, why give it valuable spots again now?
 
I mean the blueprint is the LOTR trilogy, but there was at least a sense of escalating scale and payoff with those.
 
If Wicked 2 wanted Oscars, it should have simply been better. Well done Academy for rewarding the good half.

I like the nominations. Especially the love for Sinners. The Oscars are much better now the Academy acknowledges films that are entertaining/feature black people/weren't just released in the month leading up to the nomination window.

Diane Warren getting a nomination with no chance of winning remains an annual lol. If Oscars were picked at random she'd have way more by now.
 
Anyway, I hope Sinners sweeps everything. It wasn’t my favorite movie of the year, but I liked it a lot and it was a new original movie that was successful and people connected to. I’m going to rewatch it; I haven’t seen it since opening day
 
I’ve seen every best picture nominee except Hamnet, and the one I enjoyed the least was Sentimental Value (boring)
