Thursday up way way to erly

Quite simply, you're never entirely "off" when you own your own business. I went to a funeral yesterday and was mostly OOO but still had a couple of "sorry, what do I do with this?" emails. (Which is entirely fine, by the way). I then woke up at 5 today and first thing I did was go through my email. The worry never really leaves you.

HOWEVER, what I will say, is that putting the right structure in to avoid being available all the time, or being constantly on call really helps. I turn everything off at 5 and unless there's something they need me for, my team deals with the rest (we're open til 11). Switching off those notifications is vital to me.
My team is Mandy, who I live with, so we never switch off 😭

Ms Ron does our bookkeeping, and I really have to remind myself that I can't get mad at her when she demands invoices and receipts from me at inopportune times. She'll probably join us full time next year if things carry on this way as well. 🙃

Yeah honestly I'd say never open a franchise. You're very sensible not doing it!

Not all franchises are the same. It’s very different.

Though I take your point about working with Mandy, equally you could put those barriers in. Not discussing work after certain hours etc.

Mr Sheena is a trained accountant from a previous life and does my end of year stuff and I really should just bite the bullet and employ someone to do it for me- it’s stressful as fuck and I also can’t believe it’s being done THAT correctly considering the amount of times he says “oh, you’re small fry, they’re never going to check that closely”… :D

An accountant in the past told me something similar, under a certain amount there is no point auditing you because of the return, so don't worry about it.

Dangerous words.

Yeah but how small is small? And how small in a few year would get looked back on?

I mean, I’m not fiddling anything on purpose, at all, but still…

Or as Edina Monsoon says “what’s the point of having an accountant if he’s within the law?”

We do try the barriers, and sometimes it works, but then ill be om FB or instagram and we get a message on the work page, and then we end up talking about it again. Its been hard.

Mandy panics about everything regarding accounts, to the point I bought some jam on the joint card to have in the shop for lunch and she really stressed about it, saying "we don't use jam in our fudge, you cant claim for that".

Yet happily let me buy a £500 camera on the shop and claim it was for "social media purposes".

Its been used in Antartica and Wales so far.

I'm sat here trawling through 1193 bank transactions where the company director pays for everything in his life from the business account. If I send you his number can you ask Mandy to ring him and explain how business bank accounts should be used? :D

I'd have let you have the jam on sundry expenses as long as any member of staff was allowed the benefit of said jam should they wish.
