Chris Rea DEAD

Is it wrong that the first thought that popped in my mind was 'well at least it wasn't last week because then he would've taken Christmas number 1 from Kylie'

We all had that thought - I only came in to see who was the first to say it :D
Pretty much had this written out word for word and then thought "ah someone else will come along and say the same thing".

At least his much better song about the A63, The Road To Hull, will be able to be the New Year number one once all the Christmas songs have cleared out.

Another one with a Christmas song who died at Christmas :(
Actually yes. With Wham!'s recent resurgence as "the" Christmas song in recent years, is the sad irony of George Michael passing away on Christmas Day ever really pointed out? Or are we all just happy bopping along to it despite it being his death anniversary? :MeredithMarks:

Reading up on his multiple medical issues, gives me hope. An example of the true wonder of modern medical science to live to the age he did.

“Driving Home For Christmas” has only ever peaked at #10. I wonder if it’s too late having missed the Christmas weekend, to best that this Friday?

Such a fine wine Christmas song. It has grown into one of my faves in recent years.

Drive safe Mr Rea. RIP :(

RIP and everything but his might be my least favourite Christmas song in a CROWDED FIELD.

His Christmas song aside, I quite like On The Beach.

Which was a much bigger hit in the early 00s when it was sampled for this:

My Dad was a fan BACK IN THE DAY, so I was exposed to Chris Rea. Although I doubt I knew much more than the driving songs and On The Beach for fun time dance larks.

Dabbling in Josephine as we speak.

I do love Fool If You're Think It's Over too, though admittedly much more in the hands of Elkie.

James Brown died on Xmas Day, IIRC. I remember seeing a CD in Fopp with a picture of Brown in a santa hat called "Funky Christmas" and to this day, I have no idea why I didnt buy it. Must have been skint at the time.

Matched its 2021 all time peak of #10 today. I doubt it would have performed so well without his death, as it has leapfrogged several other Christmas songs to do it.
