Haven't watched 6 yet.
I still think it's basically Heartstopper with anal (but Heartstopper was better).

I found the time jumps pretty jarring at times too, so episode 6 was a very refreshing change from that. Almost anti- what the rest of the season was.

I’m not sure how the time jumps work in the book form. I know a lot of review shows cite that as a big issue for them.

Crave didn’t have a big budget and they filmed it in 36 days or so and they took the storylines from the first two books for this first season which I think causes the numerous time jumps. Again, I haven’t read the books but people say it’s a pretty faithful adaptation so maybe that’s in the written word as well.
