Taylor Swift - The Life of a Showgirl (12th album)

I will say I don't think much of Kylie's antics either. VoR has touched on it, and I'd agree that there is far more justification for a Saint Etienne, Louise or even a Nicki French where deluxe editions are probably necessary just to bring them all to the UK National Living Wage. But Kylie can absolutely live without ever having a profit-making album again.

The sharts are a separate issue - it very much is the streaming repetition / "greatest hits" that has stagnated that. The deluxes usually just give a legacy album a solitary week's re-entry before disappearing again, so they aren't really distorting much. Taylor's the exception, but streaming would see her #1 for months regardless.

The real issue is the ethics of deliberately swindling the more smooth-brained of your fanbase - be they the naive younger girls that VoR speaks of, or the utterly deranged cult members that Ag has encountered. And Taylor's infinitely worse than Kylie; she isn't just doing a re-issue, she's doing 75 of the fuckers.




Tldr; Taylor Swift is EVIL
 
I'm already horrified that Kylie's fortune might be spent on 84 versions of Taylor 700th album.
 
To defend Kylie, which I understand is a touch hypocritical considering my take on Taylor, she's all about legacy rather than scaling new heights. I'm not a fan of Kylie's tactics at all times, but as a fan I feel very fed for a legacy act, whose main income comes from 40 plus gay men and mums. I struggle to resent her, I feel like she's earned the right. Her relationship with her fans is far more sincere. The appreciation is real. She still can't believe her success at times still. Taylor has none of that humblenes.

I see Taylor's scarf and raise you Kylie's Skirt.

I do agree, with most of this, but Kylie "needs it a lot less" is not entirely true. She's with a major label and the budget is going to be much higher for her promo etc. Maybe THAT doesn't need to be, but for the project to make a profit, the cost is going to be a lot higher. True, if she was self-financing, then no, but maybe she doesn't have that in her armoury right now.
 
I'm also a bit concerned at deciding whether to spend money on music based on whether or not the artist "needs" it. Very easy to pick off a top echelon but where would it stop? I have never been unsatisfied with a Taylor Swift purchase, which is probably because I've restricted myself to the CD editions of her albums. I've felt a bit swizzed by The Fall, Nurse With Wound, Current 93 and several other underground artists with low quality live releases, "unreleased" materail thats just an edit or a slight alternate mix etc. So who do I trust with my money? Caveat Emptor!

I’ve said it before but if this was the norm 40 years ago I would be giving my last penny to collect 85 Madonna variants.

Right or wrong, vinyl variants have become the money maker and a brand as big as Swift is going to take full advantage. If people fall for it that’s on them.

Which is all true, but I also think if Moopy was the norm 40 years ago we would also be calling Madonna an evil grifter
 
Why would we talk about how good she was if she went away after dropping two of the most mid albums of her career in quick succession?
 
why would she go away when she's selling 7 million albums ww in one week while the main pop girls take eight years and three eras to reach the same numbers it's literally just math at this point
 
I watched the first 2 episodes of her Disney+ series and it reallt is FOR THE FANS, like it's so DVD Bonus Feature to watch her reherse for Florence and The Machine
 
Her documentary series is so boring. The only emotion and vulnerability that can be mustered is channeled through queer people of colour (VERY Truth or Dare) dancers telling their stories and how grateful they are to their white savior Taylor. The major plot point and tension of the latest episode is if the switching up of an ugly red catsuit into an ugly gold catsuit will be ready in time for its planned debut outing.

Please, for the love of god, release a remix of literally any other song already.

I spent a couple of weeks in the US in late December, drove everywhere with the radio on, and I swear Ophelia played every two or three songs. Enough already.
and I mean it in the best way, I don't hate her. Wildest Dreams came up last night and reminded me how good 1989 was.
 
It is kind of weird how she has just abandoned the other tracks on the album, but I guess she did the same with Tortured Poets

Even wilder in Tortured Poet's case considering there were 623 other tracks to choose from.
 
She’s done well to get so much milage out of one photoshoot for this whole era with 100 different variants/covers of the album and single.
 
I don’t get why she is clamoring to get another week at #1 with Ophelia when it’s already spent 10 weeks atop the chart. Opalite was knocking on the door of replacing it, organically, but she hasn’t capitalized or promoted that. And it’s plummeted on streaming as a result. It’ll be another Lavender Haze once they finally push it.

There were reports that a video had been shot for Elizabeth Taylor.
