Speculate Wildly About Enya (5 Viewers)

Enya just realised that a few days ago, she surpassed the age of Jackie Kennedy, who was the US' First Lady at the time of her birth. ♡

She is not quite reverting to the 60s, however. ☺️

However, Enya remembered she has a vintage Little Miss No Name doll from 1965 which she might get re-rooted. 🖤

Enya finds the Latvian Eurovision entry this year rather nice. ♡🪄
She did have to look at the song title for a while though (Ēnā, not Ẽnã, nor Eña :D)

Enya can't quite tell if they mean the Orinoco Flow outfit she wore, or the paracetamol Dutch word for tablet ending in 'en' :D

She wouldn't try it though 😅

Enya doesn't believe in paracetamol.

She believes in the traditional remedy of drilling holes in the skull. She has performed this service on many a castle henchman.

She also recommends dungeon sex.

Enya finds herself luckier on Friday the 13ths  so she's going to play the EuroMillions (and, whether she wins much or not, plans to put some excess money towards both children's charities and helping people help her get the new album done) :disco:

That's a crazy mistake if they were being genuine (but funny how many lies: not Enya of course, London not Galway, Lidl not Aldi, and white wine not Jack Daniels haha). 😅
I wouldn't have known before, but these are 2014 pictures of EastEnders actress Elaine Lordan, thankfully doing much better now than back then. 😌

Enya hopes this is a one-off, but she's glad most people are aware it's not her, and know of her 2025 picture. 😊 ✨

Enya thinks a more portly Monty Don is looking similarly androgynous to Jeanette Winterson these days ☺️
(She is a fan of them both 🤗🧑🏻‍🌾📖)

Enya supposes Friday nights out still matter for most of Ireland haha (or not being bothered and going to bed early). :D

She would be of the minority votes here (Claudia or a bit of both) 😊

Eny-way, the Enya revelation of the year so far, for me (miles away from actual updates last year 😅) is this translated bit in the Irish language interview from 1985, that her mother was worried for her social life/lack of, and basically almost stopped her solo career. 🙃
Emotional neglect/manipulation hm. :/
🥲 I can empathise... thank goodness for Nicky and Roma though ♡
She had more social life than me though :D

(I knew there was a mention of discos as in discothèque :disco: haha)

A few moments earlier I love how she mentions Jenny's Theme/Dreams being her favourite (one of my favourites of all of Enya's songs 💗) but not sure if she likes it because it's a sad piece 🥹

Enya would love to time travel back to then, and tell her younger self that her career will absolutely be worthwhile. ♡

Omg, her mother really needs to stay out of her life 🫠

Her mother wanted her at the disco, Enya wanted a three-year studio isolation to master a five-second echo.😌

Enya barely suppressed a grin when he mentioned her mother 😜

I know 🫠 especially since she'd moved out and gone to live with the Ryans. I guess Enya set boundaries at some point (that Shepherd Moons article where she says she'll call her mother on Sundays/at the end of the week) early in her career.

That must've changed later, like when Eithne flew back from Australia around 2005-6 to stay with her mother after the heart operation. 💗
Sometimes I can't help thinking Eithne’s been made to feel guilty not having her own family, mostly by her family, so has to be by her mother's or sister's side at events as a way of avoiding conflict after. 🙁
She'll only be more free of that (even then, not entirely) when they're gone...

I love the way that's put 🎶😊

Haha true, the little smile at that moment now explains a lot ☺️

Enya's obviously still going to do something for Mothering Sunday, but secretly hopes people will be doing things to celebrate her mother-like role in their lives too. 🎼🤗

Omg, poor Enya, my heart aches for her 😔♥️ I think she should just tell her whole family to go to hell 😏 They have no damn right to force anything on her, much less guilt!

CANCEL MOTHERS DAY NOW

ENYA HUMMING DAY NOW

Sadly your hopes are in vain, for as the internet reminds us daily, Enya is CHILDLESS and SOULLESS and LIKES CATS, so this isn't the day for her.

She is less like everyone's mother, and more like everybody's crazy Aunt Liesl who is drunk and smells faintly of bats, but is still tolerated because she's rich and gives everyone cash for Christmas.

What conflicts do you mean? 😔
This is speculating 😅
but I think what I meant is something called 'fawning' (essentially making people happy to avoid conflict). Obviously she knows how to balance things, but with family it's more difficult to avoid being confronted at some point. She probably has to explain (or ask someone else to say) why she wants to/doesn't want to do things that they don't agree with (such as the 1993 article, she wants to stay in or go on a walk when her mother wanted her to meet family friends, after a long promotional journey). In cases where she gets her way, they might respond like 'that's no excuse, you should've done this, or that' or make her feel guilty for not doing what they wanted. 🙃 Perhaps they (including some siblings) randomly argue about a minor thing she did or didn't do (such as being alongside them, helping out) and after the argument, they'll likely go quiet on her (silent treatment, a form of guilt-tripping, different from simply leaving her alone). I feel like some of her siblings realise the issues, but ignore it, or find it hard to speak up about without causing more trouble. She might have it worst because of the 'oh you'll understand it as a parent' mentality so many people have. :(
Even when she achieves something (like in the 1993 article when her father was like 'God has given us a beautiful daughter'; he's another case...) the parents seem to see it as their achievement much more than her own. :eyes:
I know that Gay Byrne was rather annoying for that Watermark award, but he probably knew that dynamic was the case when he went over to her parents, so had this weird protectiveness or even 'knowing narcissism' (not sure if that's a thing) haha.
But I'd guess making people happy for a bit or 'fawning' is more comfortable than being against them, but obviously she needs some downtime too.

I don't know where to fit these points into the above, but that childhood story with her mother frowning at her mistake for the singing competition, bribing Moya with her allowance of sweets just to play a piano duet with her, and even later, like her 'must be doing something right' comment for her Ulster University honorary award speech, and signing all those autographs, all hint at her having to please others for a bit, to keep safe, in a way.
Not violent conflicts, just minor ones that build up over time, leading to lifelong perfectionism and some degree of people-pleasing 🫠

What article from 1993 are you talking about?

Growing up in a family of nine isn't just childhood, it's a struggle for survival. Enya definitely needed long-term therapy and complete isolation from her family to maintain her sanity.🫠

Enya saw the previously unseen Princess Diana photo that Prince William shared (this) and it made her think back to 1984, what she was doing back then, when not composing or back at home... those occasional days out with the Ryans 🤗☀️💐

Enya has done her Mothering Sunday greetings tasks, and has been chuckling at a Reddit thread of people saying ADHD in different languages :D

Neamhord Easnaimh Airde (NEA) is the hyperactivity-less version as Gaeilge (otherwise NHEA to include the word hipirghníomhaíochta 😅)

Maybe the spelling Enya was intended as an anagram of (wh)y, NEA?

Enyapatricius really beautiful 😊
💗 I just thought of what the Latin could be ☺️ (anglicised middle name Patricia seems to be Patricius)

My example was for lavender, though most people have roses named after them (Rosa [name]) without the Latinisation, usually.

Enya is probably going to be watching the Oscars/Academy Awards tonight, and fondly remembers when her dream almost came true back in late March 2002. 😌♥️

🎶💗

Enya would like to know more about Maggie Kang's dupe of her Oscars red carpet dress. ☺️🪄♥️

Then again Irish actress Jessie Buckley had a similar red neckline and silver necklace combination too. Enya is happy for her, but can't help but thinking that she could've been the first Irish  actress composer to win, 24 years ago. 🥲

By the way, who actually won the Oscar that year, who beat out Enya? 🥲

I think Randy Newman, the song "If I Didn't Have You" from Monsters, Inc. (I've probably watched the film, but don't really remember the song 😅)

On one of the red carpet interviews (from 2001 or 2002) Enya spoke about being a fan of his work, but still, that Oscar should've been hers... 🥲

I have no words, omg 😏 Such a shame!!! "May it be" such an iconic track for iconic movie!!!
I think they didn't give Oscar to Enya cause she's Irish....

Enya has had a lovely morning fashioning colostamy bags out of Adam Rickets innards
